Kathy Griffin Takes a Bleep-Worthy Swipe at The View Alum Meghan McCain
After a fresh turn on The View, Kathy Griffin praised the current panel as an easy ride — but hinted she’d rather not be seated with a few former cohosts.
Kathy Griffin went on The View, had a nice time, then hopped on YouTube a few days later and lit a couple of former cohosts on fire for sport. Classic Griffin: quick promo stop, then a postgame show with jokes and shrapnel.
The setup
Griffin, 65, sat at The View table on Friday, April 24 to plug her new comedy tour. The lineup that day: Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin. On Tuesday, April 28, she posted a YouTube debrief where she called that group an easy panel and said she genuinely likes them. She also slapped a disclaimer at the top of the video: 'This video is intended for entertainment purposes only. All claims are alleged.'
Who she was happy to miss
Griffin made it very clear she does not pine for the days of some past View conservatives. She took a swing at Elisabeth Hasselbeck, framing their old on-air exchanges as her having to put up with a certain brand of indignant stupidity. And when it came to Meghan McCain, who exited the show in 2021, Griffin did not tiptoe.
'Have I been on with Meghan McCain, or does she just come after me? I can't remember, but she's an annoying c***. ... I just love to go for her because she takes the bait every time. And now she's gonna do a post about how I'm not a feminist. And that's how this works, Meghan.'
Subtle? No. On brand? Entirely. Us Weekly says they reached out to McCain's team for comment.
The Alyssa of it all
Griffin also came in ready to roast Alyssa Farah Griffin, 36, for her time in the Trump White House. She initially called Alyssa a former Trump press secretary, which is not quite right; Alyssa was White House director of strategic communications in 2020 during Trump’s first term. Close enough for material, but not the same job.
Either way, Griffin says she was lining up jokes until someone on set told her Alyssa had just had a baby. For the record, Alyssa and her husband, Justin Griffin, welcomed a son in February. She took maternity leave and returned to The View on April 13. So not literally yesterday, but recent enough that Griffin holstered the digs. And then a twist: Griffin says Alyssa ended up being the nicest person at the table. She added that she has plenty of Republican friends despite being, in her words, a big ol' lefty.
Who was at the table, who wasn’t
- At the table on April 24: Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin
- Not there (and not missed, per Griffin): Meghan McCain, who left in 2021
- Old-school target mentioned: Elisabeth Hasselbeck
Bottom line: Griffin came to promote the tour, stayed for the chaos, and left a trail of quotables. If you were hoping for kumbaya, wrong show, wrong comic.
