General Hospital shake-up: Kate Mansi is out as Kristina Corinthos-Davis, telling SoapSteph’s Daytime Dish she filmed her final scenes last month after a difficult decision to leave.

General Hospital is losing its latest Kristina. Kate Mansi is out, and yes, it all came together fast.

What happened

In an interview published Sunday, May 24 by daytime TV outlet SoapSteph's Daytime Dish, Mansi, 38, said her run as Kristina Corinthos-Davis wrapped last month, when she filmed her final scenes.

"I've made the very difficult decision to leave General Hospital."

She joined the long-running ABC soap in 2023 and, by her account, the exit is about bandwidth and real-life logistics. Her husband, producer Matt McInnis, is working on a series that shoots mostly overseas, and she wants the flexibility to travel while still developing and working in Los Angeles. In other words: fewer 5 a.m. call times in Port Charles, more airport security lines.

Why she signed on in the first place

Mansi says two things drew her to GH back in 2023: playing an LGBTQ+ character and helping tell an endometriosis storyline. For anyone not tracking every beat, Kristina is queer, and her arc intersected with an endometriosis plot in the family — which is why we got that fertility and surrogacy thread.

"Together, I truly feel we honored both of those stories in a way that mattered."

She also made a point to thank executive producer Frank Valentini, ABC, and the writers for how they handled Kristina, calling the gig meaningful and unforgettable and saying she loved being a 'fiery Corinthos-Davis girl.' And then, the clean exit line: it feels like the right time for both her and Kristina to jump into new adventures.

The show's response

Valentini, 63, gave her a warm sendoff, saying the team loves Mansi, supports her decision, and that the door is always open. He also credited what she added to the show over the past three years — which, in soap math, is basically her entire run since 2023.

Where you know her from

Before GH, Mansi was best known for playing Abigail Deveraux on Days of Our Lives from 2011 to 2020. So, daytime fans already had her on speed dial.

Meanwhile in Port Charles...

  • Steve Burton pressed pause earlier this year to enjoy newly married life and family time. Valentini told Soap Opera Digest he was glad they could carve out that personal time and teased big Jason Morgan stories leading into spring, with a return planned for summer.
  • Kirsten Storms came back as Maxie Jones in February after a leave of absence following the discovery of a brain aneurysm. Good news: she is back on screen.

The bottom line

Mansi is out after a nearly three-year chapter that checked a couple of meaningful boxes for her — queer representation and a women's health storyline — and she leaves on good terms. The show says the door is open. Translation: expect recast chatter, and do not be shocked if Kristina pops back in down the road. That is the soap circle of life.
