Justin Hartleys Tracker Promotes Fan Favorite Amid Cast Shakeup
After a wave of exits, Justin Hartley’s hit Tracker is promoting Chris Lee to series regular for season 3, upgrading Randy—introduced in season 2 as Bobby’s cousin—into a full-time presence, Deadline reports.
Tracker is shaking up its lineup again. After a run of exits and absences, CBS has bumped Chris Lee up to series regular for season 3. If you watched last season, you know him as Randy — Bobby’s cousin who stepped in when things got messy behind the scenes.
Quick refresher on the show’s hot streak (and the musical chairs)
Tracker exploded out of the gate in February 2024 with record-setting ratings for CBS. The setup is simple and sticky: Justin Hartley plays Colter, a survivalist who roams the country solving missing persons cases, one town at a time. As he picked up gigs, the show built out a rotating bench around him — handlers Teddi (Robin Weigert) and Velma (Abby McEnany), hacker Bobby (Eric Graise), and attorney Reenie (Fiona Rene’s character).
Then season 2 started by quietly writing Teddi out. On-screen, Velma explained that Teddi needed time away to help her mom, and Velma pivoted to working with Reenie. After that, Teddi basically vanished from conversation. Around the same time, Bobby disappeared for six episodes, which fans absolutely noticed. In that gap, Randy showed up — introduced in season 2 as Bobby’s cousin — and started helping Colter on cases.
Randy stuck the landing, apparently, because he’s now a full-timer for season 3. Meanwhile, news later broke that Eric Graise (Bobby) and Abby McEnany (Velma) are not returning for now. So yes, the bench is changing.
Who’s in, who’s out, what’s next
- Chris Lee is now a series regular as Randy, after recurring in season 2.
- Eric Graise (Bobby) and Abby McEnany (Velma) are not back at the moment.
- Robin Weigert’s Teddi was written off at the top of season 2 and wasn’t referenced again that year.
- Reenie is still active in the story, and season 3 pairs her more with Randy.
What the boss says about the shake-up
Showrunner Elwood Reid has been upfront about not letting the series turn into a formula where Colter just calls a buddy and gets instant answers. In a May 2025 interview, he laid out the rulebook he’s sticking to:
"The only rule I really have of the show is each week Colter is going to come to a new place and there’s going to be a new case. How he gets those answers and what he uses on the team, that’s all something that’s up for grabs."
Reid also said he doesn’t want the supporting players to be glorified phone-a-friend cameos, especially since Hartley is carrying so much of the screen time. For season 3 specifically, he teased that Reenie is still dealing with the fallout from her season 2 case and brings Randy in to help fix it. We’ll actually see them working side by side in her office, forming a new bond. He even hinted that Reenie will try to expand the law practice by hiring another character, which should open up their corner of the show a bit.
And expect more levity threaded through the season. Colter’s cases can get pretty grim, so Reid wants to balance that with lighter character beats and more colorful local guest stars as Colter blows into each new town.
Bottom line
Tracker isn’t stuck in neutral. The cast is evolving, Randy just got a promotion, and season 3 is aiming to build real stories around the bench instead of using them as a hotline.
Tracker airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS, with episodes streaming the next day on Paramount+.
