Soldier Boy roars back in the first trailer for The Boys spinoff Vought Rising, a bruising return after his pivotal final-season move handing Homelander the V-One built to make him immortal.

Prime Video is not done with The Boys, not by a long shot. Next up is Vought Rising, a 1950s-set prequel that drags Jensen Ackles back into the fray as Soldier Boy — and yes, there’s already a trailer showing him in action again.

Quick refresher: where we left Soldier Boy

Soldier Boy was a huge presence in the show’s fifth and final season. He literally handed Homelander the V-One formula — the stuff designed to make him immortal — then got yanked off the board right before the end. In the penultimate episode, his son shoved him back into the cryo chamber. He didn’t show up in the series finale, which is where his story pauses… for now.

So what is Vought Rising?

It ’s a prequel diving into the birth of Vought and how Supes were sold to the world in the first place. The show is set in the 1950s and leans into what the franchise calls the 'diabolical' events that created the first generation of superheroes. That includes a younger Soldier Boy — as Benjamin, before the shield and the PR — and the return of Clara Vought, better known as Stormfront, also known as Liberty (Aya Cash). And yes, the trailer confirms she is very much part of this story. Considering she’s a Nazi, expect that thread to get darker, not softer.

The trailer: blood, labs, and early Supes

The footage doesn’t spit out a plot synopsis, but it does paint a clear picture: Vought is testing V-One on soldiers and randos at a facility called Sage Grove Manor. If that name pings your memory, it should — it appears to be the same psychiatric complex (or an earlier version of it) as the Sage Grove Center we first saw back in The Boys Season 2. The results of those trials? Messy. Very few people make it out alive, and the ones who do don’t come out clean. Which, of course, dovetails perfectly with Vought trying to package all that carnage as a clean, patriotic miracle for the public.

Who’s in the mix

  • Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, seen both pre- and post-transformation ( as Benjamin before he volunteers)
  • Aya Cash as Clara Vought/Stormfront/Liberty, with the show expanding her history and her twisted connection to Soldier Boy — he confessed he loved her in Season 5, and this looks set to explore that
  • Mason Dye returning as Bombsight (he showed up in Season 5)
  • Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel (previously name-dropped on the main show)
  • Will Hochman as Torpedo (also name-checked before, now finally on screen)

The angle on Soldier Boy

We’re getting him before the legend — Benjamin, trying to become the hero he wasn’t. The trailer nods to a chip on his shoulder: he signs up for the program at least partly because he wasn’t the actual war hero in his family; his brother was. That tracks with the show’s long-running theme of Vought manufacturing icons to paper over very human insecurities.

Could this jump past the finale?

Even though it’s set in the 1950s, don’t rule out timeline play. Soldier Boy is still alive after the main show’s ending, so if the series wants to sneak in scenes that push his story forward, it has the runway to do it.

Bottom line: the trailer makes Vought Rising look like a sharp, bloody expansion of the Boys-verse that fills in how the sausage (and the Supes) got made — and why that was always a terrible idea.

When and where

Vought Rising premieres on Prime Video in 2027.
