Jumanji: Open World first look drops, Dwayne Johnson and the gang are back
There’s a first glimpse of Jumanji: Open World — but what exactly are we being dropped into this time?
In the first look at Jumanji: Open World, the game doesn’t just suck players in — it breaks out. The trailer shows the avatars loose in a modern city, dodging a stampede of hippos, while giraffes and ostriches take over intersections and hulking creatures loom over downtown streets. There’s another wrinkle: the avatars are glitched, stuck in demo mode, which means their trademark strengths come with ridiculous bugs.
The biggest gag belongs to Dwayne Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone, who suddenly speaks with a Spanish accent and can’t quite manage his swagger. The footage leans hard into slapstick—awkward sprinting animations, broken voice lines, and blown skills—while the team tries to corral the chaos pouring out of the console and into the real world.
Returning stars anchor the sequel, with the franchise ’s modern shepherd Jake Kasdan back in the director ’s chair for what’s billed as the final film in this current trilogy and the fifth installment overall. Sony Pictures released the trailer today.

The modern run has serious momentum to match. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) surprised the industry with more than $950 million worldwide, and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level followed with over $801 million. They revived a brand that began with the 1995 classic starring Robin Williams , based on Chris Van Allsburg’s book, and later branched to the related standalone sequel Zathura: A Space Adventure.
Jumanji: Open World is set to open on December 25, 2026 .
