Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar break their silence, saying they’re heartbroken and focused on supporting Kendra and the family after reports their son Joseph was arrested over child molestation allegations.

Another Duggar scandal, and this one is brutal. Joseph Duggar, who grew up on TV with the rest of the 19 Kids and Counting crew and later on Counting On, has been arrested and charged over allegations that he molested a child during a 2020 family trip to Florida. His parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, are speaking out, the Florida case is moving toward extradition, and there is a separate set of Arkansas charges that also pulled his wife Kendra into the mess. Here is what happened, as clearly as I can lay it out.

What police say happened in Florida

Florida authorities say the alleged victim, now 14, reported that Joseph repeatedly abused her when she was 9 during a family vacation in Panama City Beach in 2020. According to Bay County investigators, the child participated in a forensic interview and described a pattern that allegedly went like this: he would ask her to sit on his lap, then to sit next to him under a blanket on a couch, during which he manipulated her underwear and grazed her genitals, and kept rubbing her thighs. Police say Joseph later apologized to the child, and the behavior stopped after that apology. Years later, on March 17, 2026, the victim’s father confronted Joseph; Florida authorities say Joseph admitted to the father and also made admissions to detectives in Tontitown, Arkansas.

Arrest, charges, and custody status

On March 18, 2026, Tontitown Police in Arkansas arrested Joseph, 31, on Florida charges of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child under 12 and lewd or lascivious conduct by a person 18 or older. Arkansas records show that on Friday, March 27, he was transferred out of the Washington County Detention Center in Fayetteville. That same day, Arkansas authorities released his booking photo — he is listed as 5'9 and 206 lbs; in the mugshot he has a beard, a dark gray T‑shirt, and a flat, somber stare. As of publication, he was still listed in Arkansas custody pending extradition to Florida, but his precise current housing location was not publicly available. For what it is worth, his last Instagram post before the arrest was a family shout-out.

A separate Arkansas case also names Kendra

Two days after Joseph’s arrest, on March 20, Arkansas authorities filed a different case: four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment. Those same eight misdemeanor counts also hit his wife, Kendra, 27. She was arrested March 20 and released on bond that day. A family rep says Kendra’s misdemeanor case is unrelated to the Florida allegations.

Jim Bob and Michelle respond

"Jim Bob and Michelle are heartbroken over this entire situation."

Through a spokesperson, Joseph’s parents say they are focused on supporting their family and helping Kendra and her kids, they are praying for the victim, and they are asking for privacy while expressing gratitude for the kind words and prayers people have sent.

The bigger Duggar context

Counting On famously chronicled Joseph’s courtship and wedding to Kendra; they now share four children: Garrett (7), Addison (6), Brooklyn (5), and Justus (3). The family’s public image has taken heavy hits before. In 2015, eldest son Josh admitted to molesting multiple girls, including two of his sisters, when he was a teenager and issued a public apology. Months later, he apologized again after being exposed in the Ashley Madison data breach, admitting he had been viewing pornography and was unfaithful to his wife Anna (they have seven kids). In 2021, Josh was convicted of receiving child sexual abuse material and sentenced to 12 years in prison. He maintains his innocence and is appealing.
