Jesse Tyler Ferguson fuels Modern Family reboot buzz: “We Would Love to Get Back Together”
Modern Family fans, perk up—Jesse Tyler Ferguson just looked back on the sitcom and slipped in a tantalizing tease that has longtime fans guessing what could be next.
On a new episode of his podcast Dinner’s On Me, Jesse Tyler Ferguson said the Modern Family cast has been talking about getting the band back together. The Emmy-winning ABC comedy signed off in 2020 after 11 seasons and 250 episodes, and while everyone scattered to new jobs at the time, Ferguson said the mood has shifted.
He described how rare it was to live with one character for more than a decade and to work with the same crew for so long — and how that familiarity is hard to replace once a show ends.
“That being said, it has now been six years, and we are all like, ‘We would love to get back together and do it again,’” Ferguson said.
The actor also joked about some of Mitchell Pritchett’s most off-brand escapades that the writers embraced over the years — like the episode where Mitchell accidentally got stoned, and the one where he and Eric Stonestreet’s Cameron popped sleeping pills before a long flight — as proof there’s still room to play with these characters. There’s no official reunion on the books, but Ferguson made clear the interest is real on the cast’s side.
New project at Fox
While reunion talk percolates, two of the show’s top creatives are busy elsewhere. Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker are developing a new comedy, Mammoth, at Fox for the 2027 –28 TV season. Adapted from Welsh comedian Mike Bubbins’ BBC series, it follows Tony Mammoth, a swaggering high school gym teacher who was buried in a ski avalanche in 1983 and thaws out four decades later.
He reenters the world with a Burt Reynolds–worthy mustache, a prized Trans Am and a worldview stuck in the Reagan era. Fox describes him as confident and “hopelessly outdated,” and the fish-out-of-ice premise drops him right back into teaching, where the rules have evolved without him.
Lloyd and Zuker will write, executive produce and serve as showrunners, with Bubbins also executive producing. Fox hasn’t announced casting or a specific premiere date.
