Amid brother Joseph’s arrest on child molestation charges, Jeremiah Duggar broke his social media silence Thursday, posting an Instagram tribute to wife Hannah to mark their fourth wedding anniversary.

The Duggars are in the headlines again, and the timing on this one is... something. Jeremiah Duggar just popped back up on Instagram with a cheery anniversary post to his wife, right as his brother Joseph sits in jail on serious child sex charges. Here is how it all unfolded and where things stand.

Jeremiah breaks his silence with an anniversary post

On Thursday, March 26, Jeremiah Duggar, 27, resurfaced on Instagram for the first time since news of his brother Joseph's arrest. Instead of addressing the situation, he posted a tribute to his wife, Hannah, celebrating their fourth wedding anniversary. The post was a carousel of couple selfies with a caption about how his love has grown and how grateful he is that their daughters have Hannah to look up to. Comments on the post were limited.

What Joseph is accused of, and the charges he is facing

Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested on March 18 in connection with allegations that he molested a girl while on a Florida vacation. According to a police statement cited in reporting, the alleged victim, now 14, said Joseph later apologized and the incidents stopped after that. He remains behind bars.

He is facing multiple charges, including two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. In addition to the solo charges against him, both Joseph and his wife, Kendra Duggar, 27, were hit with charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment.

Kendra was arrested on Friday, March 20, and released the same day on a $1,470 bond.

Legal status and potential penalties

Attorney Rachael Bennett, a certified family law specialist and senior attorney at Sullivan Law & Associates, reviewed the case and explained that Joseph is waiting to be transferred from Arkansas to Florida, where he will face trial on the child molestation charges. She noted that he is also charged with the same child endangerment counts as Kendra, tied to a home inspection, and characterized those as secondary to the Florida case.

If convicted in Florida on the primary offenses, Bennett said the charges could carry a life sentence. If a life sentence is not imposed, Florida law requires what is called a split sentence: a minimum of 25 years in prison followed by lifetime probation.

Family reactions

Jeremiah is not the only Duggar to post this week. Joseph's younger brother Jason Duggar and his wife, Maddie Grace, put out a joint statement on Instagram on March 26 expressing their reaction to the arrest.

We, like many, have spent the week completely shocked, confused, and grieved to list a few emotions. We are disgusted to hear the news about my brother, however, this isn’t about how it’s impacted our lives.

Context: another Duggar in prison

Joseph is the second of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's children to be arrested in recent years. Their eldest, Josh Duggar, was sentenced in May 2022 to 12 years in federal prison for possession of child pornography.
