Jenny McCarthy Breaks Silence on Jim Carrey Clone Conspiracy Theory
Jenny McCarthy shuts down a viral impostor theory, saying ex Jim Carrey really attended the 51st César Awards in Paris on Feb. 26 — and he looked excited to be there.
If you saw the posts claiming Jim Carrey sent a body double to the Césars, take a breath. Jenny McCarthy just shot that down — and the folks who actually ran the show already did the same.
McCarthy says it was him, full stop
Speaking to People, McCarthy, 53, said it was absolutely Jim Carrey at the 51st annual César Awards in Paris on February 26, where he received the Honorary César. She also made a point of how he seemed that night: happy.
'It was definitely Jim Carrey. He looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him.'
Her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, 56, chimed in with a reminder that the internet sometimes forgets there is an actual person involved: people obsess over how he looks and skip right past how happy he looked.
So why the rumor at all?
Carrey, 64, became the subject of a strange online theory that someone impersonated him at the French film awards. It picked up steam fast, even though the ceremony publicly honored him and he gave a speech.
The César boss lays out the receipts
Gregory Caulier, the César Awards general delegate, shut the whole thing down in a March statement, detailing just how not-impromptu Carrey’s appearance was. The short version:
- Carrey’s visit had been in the works since the summer, with about eight months of back-and-forth to make it happen.
- He spent months working on his speech in French and even checked the pronunciation of specific words.
- He didn’t roll in solo: he arrived with his partner, his daughter, his grandson, 12 close friends and family members, and his longtime publicist.
- Director Michel Gondry — who has done a film and two series with Carrey — showed up too, and the two were thrilled to reconnect.
Caulier waved off the online chatter as a non-issue and said what stuck with him was Carrey’s generosity, kindness, and overall elegance at the event.
On stage, a rare plus-one and a direct shout-out
Carrey made a rare public appearance with his current girlfriend, Min Ah, and thanked her from the podium. He also delivered a line that felt like a poetic flourish in translation:
'Tonight with this magnificent honor, this square has come full-circle. Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah. I love you, Min Ah.'
For context: Carrey and McCarthy’s history
McCarthy and Carrey dated from 2005 to 2010, splitting in April of that year after five years together. At the time, she said she was grateful for their years together and planned to stay close with his daughter. McCarthy later met Wahlberg, and they married in August 2014.
Bottom line: the guy in Paris was Jim Carrey. The show planned it for months, his friends and family were there, Michel Gondry caught up with him, and he gave a French-leaning acceptance speech while doting on his girlfriend. The internet can stand down on the doppelgänger theory.
