James Gunn finally addresses the swirling rumors about the next Wonder Woman, Batman, and Flash in the DCU. With speculation at an all-time high, Gunn’s candid responses on Threads leave fans guessing about the future of their favorite heroes.

Ever since Gal Gadot stepped away from her iconic role, speculation has run wild about who will take up the mantle of Wonder Woman in the DC Universe. Recently, James Gunn took to Threads to set the record straight, responding directly to fans’ burning questions about the future of DC’s most legendary characters.

Gunn Dispels Casting Rumors and Teases New Faces

When asked if auditions for Batman were happening at the end of 2025, Gunn didn’t just dismiss the rumor—he also clarified that any reports about Wonder Woman auditions were completely off base. He stated plainly that none of those stories were true.

Another fan pressed Gunn about whether Wonder Woman would appear in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Gunn denied those leaks, but did reveal that a female character is currently being cast for the film. He emphasized that scoopers have jumped to the wrong conclusion by assuming it ’s Wonder Woman.

While Gunn didn’t name the character, his comments have sparked a wave of theories. Some fans are rooting for Maxima, the formidable queen from Almerac, while others suggest Jenny Sparks, the leader of Stormwatch and The Authority, could be the one joining Clark Kent’s world. Whoever it is, the anticipation is building as fans imagine how this new addition could shake up Superman’s story.

Wonder Woman’s Future Remains Uncertain

Last year, Gunn addressed the ongoing speculation about casting a new Wonder Woman. He made it clear that no casting discussions would even begin until a script was finalized.

“We’re also not casting WW, nor even discussing it, until a script is finished.”

When asked if a Wonder Woman film was being fast-tracked, Gunn responded,

“It’s a priority, but I wouldn’t call that fast-tracked. Nothing is going to be shot unless we’re as sure as we can be that the script is good.”

He’s been consistent in his message: no project will move forward without a solid script in place.

Rumors have swirled online, especially after Gunn followed actress Adria Arjona on Instagram. Fans quickly speculated she was the new Wonder Woman, but Gunn stepped in to clarify.

“I follow Adria on Instagram but everybody came out [and said], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman.’ She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way. She was in a movie that I made seven years ago. We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.”

As of now, there are no official updates on the next Wonder Woman film.

Updates on Batman and Flash in the New DCU

Gunn also addressed rumors about the upcoming Brave and the Bold film, which was said to be aiming for a 2028 release and focusing on Batman and Damian Wayne. Gunn dismissed these claims, calling them “fiction” and confirming that the screenplay isn’t finished yet.

Questions about secret test screenings for Batman were also shot down by Gunn, who maintained his straightforward approach. Meanwhile, fans hoping to see Grant Gustin reprise his role as Flash in the new universe were left waiting, as Gunn hasn’t provided any updates on casting for the Scarlet Speedster. He’s made it clear that the script will always come first, and casting will follow only when the story is ready.

With so many questions still unanswered, fans are left to wonder who will step into these legendary roles. Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
