Invincible is powering toward Season 5 on Prime Video, set to return next year, with a new progress update signaling a quick turnaround after its best-received season yet.

Invincible is not taking a victory lap after that buzzy fourth season. Prime Video just put a pin in when we should expect Season 5 and slipped in a couple of meaty teases about who is coming back. Short version: the wait is real, but the machine is moving.

What Prime Video just confirmed

  • Season 5 is targeting a release on Prime Video sometime in 2027.
  • Voice recording for the new season is already finished, which usually means the heavy lifting now is animation and post.
  • Two big bads from Season 4 are back: Dinosaurus and Thragg. Both were stopped but not exactly settled, and their final scenes made it pretty clear they were not done causing problems.

The cadence (and the caveat)

Season 5 has technically been in the works since before Season 4 even premiered, which tracks with the team trying to keep an annual rhythm. Creator Robert Kirkman has been upfront that a yearly drop is the goal, not a promise.

"I think that a pattern has formed, but I can't confirm anything. Maybe it will be April. Maybe May. Maybe January. I don't know. Who knows? We'll see. But I would say that the goal is to come back in this general timeframe... we're pretty far into Season 5, so we feel like we're in good shape."

Translation: they like the once-a-year groove, but 2027 is the window to circle for now.

Where the story picks back up

Season 4 was one of the most well-received chapters yet and pushed the show to around Issue 78 of the comic run — basically mid-series territory. Kirkman has said the adaptation likely needs about 7 to 9 seasons to tell the whole story, and the current pace still lines up with that plan.

On the ground, Thragg and the Viltrumites are now laying low on Earth, which re-centers Mark on that threat — not that Earth ever stops throwing curveballs at him. Dinosaurus is positioned to matter even more after his Season 4 turn, and Thragg is not leaving Mark's orbit anytime soon. Expect the scope and the mess to scale up from here.
