Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic gets a fresh spin with a mother- and-son team at the center: teen Jim Hawkins and his mother, Bess, stumble onto Captain Flint’s map and set sail into danger. The moral wild card in their path is Long John Silver — played by David Oyelowo — a charming schemer whose crew has eyes on the same haul.
The hunt takes them aboard the Hispaniola, where shifting loyalties, hidden agendas and a storm of pirates close in. It ’s an adventure-first take that keeps the bones of the book while pushing the thriller elements to the surface.
