Celebrity Crime Scene: Princess Diana rewinds the clock to the hours around her fatal 1997 car crash.

The team behind Celebrity Crime Scene: Princess Diana rebuilt Paris’s Pont de l’Alma tunnel at L.A. Castle Studios, using a full-scale digital recreation to run the night’s most-debated scenarios on a controlled loop. Inside that virtual set, they re-stage the approach, the flash of cameras, the moment of impact—then scrutinize the results frame by frame.

Long-circulating theories get their turn on the track: the role of a white Fiat Uno reportedly seen near the scene, how speed and evasive driving factored in, and what a paparazzi pursuit may have changed second to second. The special doesn’t claim to deliver a final verdict; it ’s built to pressure-test the timeline with tools earlier documentaries didn’t have.

The team on camera

A trio leads viewers through the reconstruction, each bringing a different playbook to the table—a clinical read on behavior, a protection agent’s risk calculus, and a reporter’s hunt for verifiable detail.

  • Kerry Daynes — forensic psychologist
  • Rich Staropoli — former U.S. Secret Service agent
  • Jakson Buhaj — investigative journalist

Behind the scenes, the special is steered by executive producer Harvey Levin, with Ryan Regan, Dominik Rausch, Jess Fusco, and Charles Latibeaudiere also executive producing. Olivia Heinle and Courtney Doucette oversee the production.

Back to 1997

The hour resets to the night of August 31, 1997: Princess Diana, Dodi Fayed, and driver Henri Paul left the Ritz Paris in a Mercedes S280 with photographers in pursuit. The car entered the Pont de l’Alma tunnel at high speed and struck the 13th pillar. Diana, Fayed and Paul died; bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones survived.

The one-hour special premiered Thursday, August 20, 2026 on FOX (8–9 PM ET/PT) and streams on Hulu starting August 21.
