How much does John Krasinski make for Jack Ryan? One season out-earned his entire nine years on The Office
Jim Halpert was never a big earner. Neither, for a while, was the guy who played him — Krasinski was an unknown when The Office premiered in 2005, and NBC paid him accordingly.
Then Amazon handed him a CIA analyst and a franchise budget. Krasinski earned a reported $2.5 million per episode for season 3 of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, combining his acting fee and his executive producer fee. Eight episodes, roughly $20 million for the season. Puck reported in 2023 that the figure made him the highest-paid actor on television at the time, ahead of Kevin Costner on Yellowstone.
The Office math
His sitcom money looked very different:
- Seasons 1–3 (2005–2007) — $20,000 per episode, standard rate for an untested cast.
- Seasons 4–9 (2007–2013) — roughly $100,000 per episode after the show became a hit.
- Career total on the series — at least $14.72 million across 201 episodes, before residuals.
So the nine-year run on NBC brought in less than one eight-episode season of a Prime Video spy show. That's the gap between network sitcom rates in the mid-2000s and streaming 's arms race two decades later.
What he made across the whole Jack Ryan run
Krasinski reportedly signed a four-year deal. At the same rate, season 4's six episodes in 2023 would have paid around $15 million. Season 1 and season 2 figures have never been made public, and Krasinski has consistently declined to discuss his salary in interviews.
The show ran 32 episodes total between 2018 and 2023. He was, by any account, the most expensive part of it.
Why Amazon paid it
Jack Ryan was Amazon's first attempt at a broad, four-quadrant franchise, and Krasinski was both the face and a producer on it. He'd also just directed and starred in A Quiet Place, which grossed over $340 million worldwide in 2018 and turned him into a bankable filmmaker rather than a sitcom guy. The producer credit is where a lot of the money sits — that $2.5 million figure is a combined fee, not a straight acting rate.
He's said the role meant something beyond the check. Talking to USA Today about the show's ending:
"Growing up, Jack Ryan was bigger than Batman in my house," Krasinski said in 2023.
Is there more Jack Ryan money coming?
Yes. A Jack Ryan feature film was in production as of early 2026, with Krasinski attached. No salary figure has surfaced, though film deals for an established franchise lead typically pay differently than a per-episode television rate.
For the record: Steve Carell was the only Office cast member reported to have any meaningful stake in the show's syndication windfall, including the $500 million Netflix streaming deal. Everyone else, Krasinski included, gets standard SAG-AFTRA residuals on reruns of the most-streamed sitcom in America.
