High Potential caps Season 2 with an HGTV-inspired homicide — and in Us Weekly’s exclusive first look at the Tuesday, April 7 episode, Morgan’s hunt leads her to a hotel and a surprise run-in with Karadec’s girlfriend, Lucia.

High Potential is closing out Season 2 with a murder ripped from cable home-reno land: a TV fixer-upper star turns up dead at a luxe L.A. hotel. Small hiccup there: it is also where Karadec's girlfriend works. Nothing like a homicide to stress-test a relationship.

The case, the complication, the mess

In a new clip from Tuesday's April 7 episode, Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) rolls into a high-end hotel and immediately clocks Lucia (Susan Kelechi Watson) on the job. Then comes the curveball: the victim is Vera Hensley, one half of The Big Fix with Vera and Frank, a husband-and-wife renovation duo whose brand is happy demo days, not body bags.

Morgan does what she does. She studies the scene and clocks that Vera's body appears to have been kept by the pool overnight. The detail that nags at her: Vera's hair is soaked in a way that might not match an on-the-spot killing, which suggests the body could have been moved. Translation: if the murder happened somewhere else, the killer had time to clean another location before staging this one. That makes this more than your standard splashy resort whodunit.

The finale has Morgan and Karadec investigating a murder at Lucia's luxury hotel - threatening Karadec's relationship.

So yes, the personal and the professional are about to collide. Hard.

Where our duo stands heading into the finale

Quick refresher: the show launched in September 2024 and centers on Morgan, a high-capacity civilian brain who partners with LAPD Major Crimes to crack murders. Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) started out wary of Morgan's methods and now, well, he kind of depends on them. This season, though, he has not loved seeing Morgan spend time with their boss Wagner (Steve Howey). Was that protective instinct or actual jealousy bubbling up? The showrunner, Todd Harthan, says they are walking that line on purpose. He has been clear about two things: the feelings conversation is not settled for either of them, and things are only getting messier as the partnership deepens and attaches at the hip. Last fall, Sunjata, 54, also teased that both Morgan and Karadec have options in their personal lives, and we would just have to see where the show takes that.

  • Season 2 finale airs Tuesday, April 7 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC, with streaming next day on Hulu. Case-of-the-week: Vera Hensley, HGTV-adjacent reno star from The Big Fix with Vera and Frank, found at Lucia's workplace, a luxury hotel. Key players: Morgan (mom of three with zero time to build her own deck), Karadec, Lucia, and Wagner. Stakes: the investigation could blow up Karadec and Lucia, while the Morgan-Karadec will-they-won't-they stays deliberately undefined and increasingly complicated.
