Bags packed, secrets sealed: The White Lotus is gearing up for a hush-hush season 4, with whispers of a fresh locale and starry check-ins as HBO’s resort anthology readies another round of sun-soaked meltdowns for guests and staff.

The White Lotus is coming back for season 4, and as usual HBO and Mike White are keeping most of it under a beach towel. We do have solid clues on where it is headed, who is checking in, and what kind of chaos to expect. Short version: new country, big cast, still murderous.

Quick refresher: what this show keeps doing

Every season hops to a new luxe resort and eavesdrops on vacationers and staff while their desires, lies, and money problems bubble up. Someone almost always ends up dead - sometimes more than one someone - and the show makes you wait until the finale to see who and how.

Season 1 parked us in Hawaii with Murray Bartlett, Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Fred Hechinger, Jake Lacy, Brittany O'Grady, Natasha Rothwell, Sydney Sweeney, Steve Zahn, and Molly Shannon. Season 2 moved the party to Sicily with returning Coolidge plus F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Meghann Fahy, Beatrice Granno, Tom Hollander, Sabrina Impacciatore, Michael Imperioli, Theo James, Aubrey Plaza, Haley Lu Richardson, Will Sharpe, Simona Tabasco, and Leo Woodall. Season 3 went to Thailand with Rothwell back again, joined by Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Lalisa Manobal, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola, Lek Patravadi, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tayme Thapthimthong, and Aimee Lou Wood.

So where is season 4?

HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi said back in early 2024 that they were scouting and likely headed somewhere in Europe. Producer David Bernad poured cold water on the idea of, well, cold: 'Mike doesn't like the cold.' Translation: do not pack your parkas.

Following the usual White Lotus pattern - the show has set up shop at Four Seasons resorts every time so far - the trail was pretty obvious. It is now confirmed: season 4 is going to France. Filming will use multiple properties, including the Chateau de la Messardiere in Saint-Tropez. Sun, yachts, and rich people making poor choices feel like a lock.

What is White teasing this time?

Creator Mike White said in spring 2025 that Thailand fit season 3 because he was playing with Buddhist themes and identity and desire - and that another part of him wants to make it 'dirty and funny.' After the season 3 finale, he also said he wanted to move away from the show's visual habit of crashing waves on rocks. The vibe might shift a bit, but the naughty streak is not going anywhere.

'There is always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.'

When does it shoot?

Variety reported HBO is aiming to roll cameras in 2026. The renewal is done; the wait will be the annoying part.

Who is in the cast?

HBO has been quietly stacking this ensemble since late 2025. Roles are still under wraps, but here is who is on the guest list so far:

  • Alexander Ludwig
  • AJ Michalka
  • Helena Bonham Carter
  • Steve Coogan
  • Caleb Jonte Edwards
  • Marissa Long
  • Chris Messina
  • Sandra Bernhard
  • Max Greenfield
  • Kumail Nanjiani
  • Chloe Bennet
  • Charlie Hall
  • Jarrad Paul
  • Heather Graham
  • Rosie Perez
  • Ben Schnetzer
  • Tobias Santelmann
  • Frida Gustavsson
  • Laura Smet

Who wants a room key next?

The wish list from actors is hilariously long at this point. Elizabeth Banks, Janelle James, Hayden Panettiere, James Marsden, and Sheryl Lee Ralph have all said they are game. Jamie Lee Curtis, Bette Midler, Pamela Anderson, and Jennifer Aniston have also raised their hands.

Could familiar faces return?

Yes, it has happened. Jennifer Coolidge and Natasha Rothwell both bridged seasons. People inside the show have floated ideas too: Patrick Schwarzenegger pitched a collision between his season 3 character and the guys played by Jake Lacy and Theo James; HBO boss Casey Bloys has mused about Molly Shannon and Parker Posey having shared history. And given that Mike White has actually played Survivor - and plans to go back - a greatest-hits season is not that far-fetched.

One nerdy production wrinkle

The show's composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer, the man behind that earworm theme, is out. He told the New York Times during season 3 that he would not be back after disagreements over the music. White, for his part, told The Hollywood Reporter he did not feel Tapia de Veer respected him. New location, new cast, and apparently a new sound.
