During a Vogue interview for their upcoming film Marty Supreme, Timothée Chalamet surprised Gwyneth Paltrow by mentioning a hit movie she’d never heard of. Their candid conversation took an unexpected turn, revealing generational gaps and sparking a lively exchange about music, movies, and more.

While promoting their new film Marty Supreme, Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet sat down for a candid chat that took an unexpected turn. As they discussed recent movies, Chalamet brought up the box office smash Tron: Legacy, only to be met with Paltrow’s genuine surprise:

Wow. Never heard of it.

Tron: Legacy, released in 2010 as a sequel to the 1982 original, was a major hit, known for its groundbreaking visuals and a memorable soundtrack by Daft Punk. Chalamet praised the film’s music, sparking a conversation about their favorite albums and songs.

Generational Gaps and Musical Memories

The conversation quickly shifted to music, with Chalamet asking Paltrow about the first album she ever bought. She recalled picking up The Go-Go’s debut, featuring the hit “Our Lips Are Sealed.” The Go-Go’s, an all-female rock band, made waves with their chart-topping album Beauty and the Beat.

The two stars laughed over their different musical upbringings, especially when Paltrow mentioned owning a Michael Jackson record. Chalamet then shared that his current favorite song to sing in the car is “Lady” by D’Angelo, highlighting the generational divide in their musical tastes.

Behind the Scenes of Marty Supreme

Chalamet also asked if Paltrow was familiar with Weyes Blood, an Americana artist who contributed background vocals to their film. Their upcoming project, Marty Supreme, is an American sports comedy- drama directed by Josh Safdie. Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser, a 1950s New Yorker chasing table tennis glory, with Paltrow and a diverse supporting cast rounding out the film.

The movie, set for release on December 25, 2025, draws loose inspiration from real-life ping-pong champion Marty Reisman. With a runtime of about 150 minutes, the film promises a blend of ambition, chaos, and humor, all set to a score by Daniel Lopatin.

Tron Franchise: From Success to Setback

The conversation about Tron: Legacy led to a discussion of the franchise’s recent struggles. The latest installment, Tron: Ares, starring Jared Leto, failed to meet expectations both critically and financially. Despite a hefty $220 million budget, the film only managed to bring in $142 million at the box office, falling short of even modest projections.

Jared Leto’s performance and reputation for intense method acting didn’t help the film’s reception. The disappointment of Tron: Ares stands in stark contrast to the technical achievements and acclaim of Tron: Legacy, leaving fans hoping for a brighter future for the series.

Tron: Legacy is currently available to stream on Disney+ in the U.S., while Marty Supreme is set to hit theaters nationwide this Christmas.
