On their Hudson Valley spread known as Mischief Farm, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton Morgan keep life pointedly normal: feed the animals, finish your chores, then talk movies at the dinner table. Even their kids’ names carry a dusty boots-and-spurs throughline — both drawn from classic Westerns — and both children were born at home, with Morgan doing more than just pacing the hall.

Augustus “Gus” Morgan arrived on March 14, 2010, his name a salute to Augustus McCrae from Lonesome Dove. Morgan has said he helped deliver Gus during the midwife-led home birth, a hands-on start that set the tone for how involved he’d be.
Now 16, Gus has found his lane in film. Despite his parents’ early hopes to keep him out of the business a little longer, he’s studying filmmaking in high school and wrote, directed and starred in his own senior thesis project. He’s already logged time on sets too, from an uncredited appearance on The Walking Dead to a featured role opposite his dad in the 2026 series Sterling Point.
At home, Morgan’s the dad who shows up to shadow his son around a set just as readily as he’ll muck stalls on the farm. The showbiz lessons happen alongside the barn work.
George Virginia’s world
George Virginia Morgan was born on February 16, 2018, her name nodding to the Bonanza episode “A Girl Named George.” Morgan again took an active role at the delivery — he’s described “catching” his daughter when the midwife stepped back.
Family friends describe George as smart, funny and wildly imaginative — the kind of kid who spins elaborate tales about lake dragons. She’s also shown an early knack for “directing” scenes and holding a room’s attention, echoing her brother’s filmmaker streak.
Morgan wears the “girl dad” badge loudly: he marks George’s birthdays with heartfelt tributes and keeps a stuffed animal she tied to his backpack when work takes him away. On long shoots, he’s been known to sport her handmade bracelets as a reminder of home.
