God of War filming halted as Kratos star Ryan Hurst injured on set

Amazon 's God of War series just hit a wall. Ryan Hurst, the guy carrying the whole thing as Kratos, got hurt doing a stunt, needs surgery, and production is now flat-out paused. Not great news when your show depends on him axe-swinging through the Nine Realms.

TMZ reports Hurst tore his bicep while filming a stunt for the Prime Video adaptation. The injury is serious enough to require surgery. Producers had apparently circled mid-August for his return, but that window is now out of the question, and the set has gone quiet in the meantime.

The specific stunt is being kept under wraps. Filming had been underway in Vancouver, and this stoppage could ripple hard through the schedule — sources say the delay may push things well into 2027.

Hurst is the show. He is Kratos. Story-wise, it follows Kratos and his son Atreus on a grief-driven journey to honor Faye's last wish by scattering her ashes from the highest peak in the Nine Realms. Along the way, they draw the attention of the Norse pantheon, including Odin and Thor, which is where the family drama meets the god-smashing.
