From the 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' duo, new dramedy 'AWOL' lands at Netflix
Netflix just snapped up a promising new dramedy that brings the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves creative duo back together — the reunion you were hoping for.
The streamer has quietly locked down AWOL after a reported bidding war, with the dramedy set up at Netflix from filmmaking duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein — the team behind 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Plot details are being kept under wraps for now.
Craig Rowin is writing the series. His recent credits include Apple TV+ ’s The Big Door Prize and The Off Weeks, a mix that suggests an eye for high-concept premises grounded in character.

Where it fits
AWOL arrives as Netflix continues to bulk up its comedy pipeline for the next few years. Separately, the platform had been developing The Forgotten Realms, a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series from Shawn Levy that was reportedly unrelated to Honor Among Thieves and has now been scrapped, according to What’s on Netflix.

A 2027 debut is unlikely; 2028 or later is possible.
With the show still in early development and no casting underway yet, Netflix hasn’t set a timetable for when AWOL will hit the service.
