Pete Davidson just defended a certain rapper and record producer — and yes, the name you’re thinking of is the one.

In a new Variety interview, Pete Davidson looked back at his 2022 clash with Ye (Kanye West) and said he now sees that period through the lens of grief and mental health. Davidson, who is half-Jewish, said he feels empathy for Ye despite the rapper’s controversial social posts at the time.

“He’s also lost a parent and has mental stuff, and I don’t know how he deals with it or who he has around him,” he said.
“When people are so far up your a** and constantly pushing and provoking you and not showing you love, you want to burn it all. I think it got to a certain point where he was like, ‘Leave me the f*** alone. I’m just going to say crazy s***.’ There’s zero way he really feels like that,” he further added.

The feud flared while Davidson was dating Kim Kardashian, a relationship that lasted about nine months in 2022. During that time, Ye targeted the comedian on social media and took a shot at him in his track “Eazy”. Davidson said the jabs upset him then, but he’s come to a different place about it now.

On Ariana Grande

Davidson also pushed back on the current wave of commentary about Ariana Grande’s appearance. He called the piling-on unfair and unnecessary.

“I don’t like it at all,” Davidson said. “It’s not cool.”

He added that Grande is a strong person who knows how to handle that kind of noise. The two dated briefly, got engaged, and split in 2018.
