Given the choice between fame and fandom, one Oscar winner would take the Knicks over a second Oscar.

On a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Anne Hathaway wound up in a very New York dilemma during Fallon’s rapid-fire “Best Thing Ever” game: would she rather snag a second Oscar or see the New York Knicks finally win a championship? With a signed Knicks jersey in her hands and the studio crowd egging her on, Hathaway paused, laughed, and picked the title for her team.

“I’m actually, like, the way my nervous system is reacting to that choice is really intense.”

Hathaway’s choice wasn’t just a bit. The actress is a longtime Knicks fan, and her answer landed like catnip for a city still hungry for its first NBA title since 1973. Awards buzz or not, she made it clear her basketball heart sits in the blue and orange.

Knicks love, returned

That fandom has turned into a fun two-way thing. Online, some fans have even dubbed Hathaway a good-luck charm, jokingly tying her recent Knicks cheerleading to a hot streak that they swore looked like a 13-game run. Superstition? Sure. But it’s the kind Knicks fans happily run with.

The team has leaned into the affection, too. Hathaway was gifted a baby-care basket from the organization, complete with a card signed by OG Anunoby—and she left Fallon’s set hugging that autographed jersey like it was game seven.
