Filming begins on the Housemaid’s Secret with Sydney Sweeney, Kirsten Dunst and new co-stars
Production is underway on The Housemaid’s Secret, and the sequel just added a very familiar face.
The first look from set is only 16 seconds, but it ’s pure reunion energy: Sydney Sweeney wraps Kirsten Dunst in a hug, Brittany Snow is dancing off to the side, and Michele Morrone grins next to a “Lionsgate Stage 1” sign. The clip, posted October 15, 2026, also revealed cameras have already been rolling in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Shared by the official The Housemaid account on X, the video confirmed a fresh slate of characters for the sequel while keeping its locked-door mystery intact. The studio is referring to the project as The Housemaid’s Secret (also seen as “The Housemaid 2” in materials), and it’s headed to theaters with a holiday frame in 2027.
The Housemaid’s Secret is set to open in theaters on December 17, 2027.

Sweeney leads the sequel after fronting the first film; the footage teases a warmer-than-usual Day 1 vibe for a thriller built on secrets and locked rooms.
Why there’s a sequel
The 2025 movie The Housemaid turned a reported $35 million budget into roughly $400 million worldwide. It opened to about $19 million domestically in mid-December and then held through the holidays on word of mouth — the kind of legs that get a follow-up greenlit in a hurry.
That first film largely stuck to Freida McFadden’s novel, with director Paul Feig opening up the finale and altering one key fate: Andrew falls down the stairs in the film instead of dying in the attic as in the book.
What the story is this time
Feig returns to direct from a script by Rebecca Sonnenshine. The official logline mirrors the book of the same name: Millie takes a job cleaning a penthouse owned by a tech executive while his wife is kept locked in a guest room — a setup built for a cascade of twists.
Production is underway, with the cast announcement arriving via that 16-second set clip and filming spotted in Hoboken, New Jersey. The movie is dated for December 17, 2027 in theaters.
