Fangoria Chainsaw Awards dominated by Obsession and Backrooms
Two titles stole the spotlight at the Legendary Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, nabbing some notable honors.
The low-budget horror juggernauts kept rolling at the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, where Obsession and Backrooms turned their breakout runs into a trophy haul. Fresh off box-office totals of $523 million for Obsession and $400 million for Backrooms, the fan-voted ceremony crowned them among the year’s biggest winners.
Chainsaw sweep
- Obsession — Best Director, Best Lead Performance, Best Wide Release, Best Screenplay, Best Kill (5 wins)
- Backrooms — Best First Feature, Best Cinematography, Best Score (3 wins)
Both movies were led by filmmakers in their 20s — Curry Barker on Obsession and Kane Parsons on Backrooms — with Parsons’ film springing from the viral “Backrooms” creepypasta. The Chainsaw tally adds to their momentum as the awards-season chatter builds.
Spielberg’s advice
Asked about the sudden rise of Barker and Parsons on the podcast The Rest Is Entertainment , Steven Spielberg kept it blunt.
“Do not let wild success go to your heads, because when you make your next movie, you’re starting from scratch,”
The note lands with extra weight given Spielberg directed Jaws in his 20s, and that film went on to win three Academy Awards .
More winners
- Widow’s Bay — Best Series (the show has drawn praise from Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro)
- Resident Evil Requiem — Best Video Game
The Fangoria Chainsaw Awards honor horror and thriller standouts across film, TV, and gaming — and the results are fan-voted, making Obsession and Backrooms’ haul an especially loud show of support.
