Family plot twist: Sofia Coppola’s least favorite movie is her kids’ favorite
Sofia Coppola says the movie she likes least is the very one her kids adore — and the title may surprise you.
Chatting on Happy Hour with Ina Garten, Sofia Coppola copped to the one title in her filmography she’s never fully embraced: her 2013 crime drama The Bling Ring. The twist that made her laugh? It ’s the one her kids love most.
“I was always kind of ashamed of that movie because it's so kind of trashy. But then it's like my kids favorite and I was like really that one?”
Coppola said she struggled to connect with the movie because she didn’t care for its aesthetic, which kept it from resonating with her the way her other work has. The Oscar winner behind Lost in Translation, The Beguiled and Priscilla wrote and directed the film.
Inspired by a Vanity Fair article about a real group of teens who broke into the homes of Hollywood celebrities, the movie follows fame- obsessed friends as their robberies escalate from thrill-seeking to headline-making. Reviews were mixed, but it still pulled in about $20 million worldwide.
