Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan Step Up as Lucasfilm Co-Presidents
After 14 years at the helm, Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down as Lucasfilm president, with Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan taking over as co-presidents to guide the future of Star Wars.
After more than a decade leading Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy is handing over the reins. She will transition back to producing, while Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan are set to take on the roles of co-presidents, steering the direction of the Star Wars universe.
Changing of the Guard at Lucasfilm
This leadership change has been anticipated, following a wave of rumors earlier this month. Filoni, who joined Lucasfilm in 2008, has been a driving force behind some of the most beloved Star Wars projects in recent years. He first made his mark directing the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, working closely with George Lucas himself. Over the years, Filoni has taken on a variety of roles, including director and producer, contributing to hits like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. His deep connection to the franchise and mentorship under Lucas have earned him the nickname "Padawan."
Filoni expressed his gratitude in a statement:
"My love of storytelling was shaped by the films of Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas. I never dreamed I would be privileged to learn the craft of filmmaking from both of them. From Rey to Grogu, Kathy has overseen the greatest expansion in Star Wars storytelling onscreen that we have ever seen. I am incredibly grateful to Kathy, George, Bob Iger and Alan Bergman for their trust and the opportunity to lead Lucasfilm in this new role, doing a job I truly love. May the Force be with you."
Lynwen Brennan Joins Filoni at the Helm
Lynwen Brennan, who has served as Lucasfilm’s general manager, will join Filoni as co-president. Her experience managing the business side of the studio makes her a natural fit for the position. Brennan shared her excitement about the new chapter:
"Lucasfilm has played such a meaningful part in my life. It 's a community of inspiring storytellers with a rebel spirit like no other, and I am honored to join Dave Filoni in leading us forward. I have been so fortunate to learn from George Lucas, Kathy Kennedy and Alan Bergman and have unwavering faith in Dave's creative vision for the next chapter in this storied studio's legacy."
Kennedy’s Legacy and Next Steps
Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm, Kennedy has overseen every major Star Wars project, including the entire Rey trilogy, Solo, Rogue One, and more. Her leadership has shaped the modern era of the franchise. Although she is stepping down as president, Kennedy will remain with the company as a full-time producer, continuing to influence the future of Star Wars.
Reflecting on her time at the studio, Kennedy said:
"When George Lucas asked me to take over Lucasfilm upon his retirement, I couldn't have imagined what lay ahead. It has been a true privilege to spend more than a decade working alongside the extraordinary talent at Lucasfilm. Their creativity and dedication have been an inspiration, and I'm deeply proud of what we've accomplished together. I'm excited to continue developing films and television with both longtime collaborators and fresh voices who represent the future of storytelling."
