Daniel Kaluuya Nears Completion on Standalone Spider-Punk Script
Daniel Kaluuya is co-writing a Spider-Punk solo film, with the first draft nearly finished and creative input from Spider-Verse producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
After the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, fans couldn’t get enough of Daniel Kaluuya ’s electrifying portrayal of Spider-Punk, also known as Hobie Brown. His rebellious spirit and unique style made a lasting impression, leaving many eager to see more of this unconventional hero. Now, Kaluuya is taking things a step further by co-writing a standalone adventure for the character, teaming up with Ajon Singh to bring Hobie’s story to life.
The project, first announced in August, is making significant progress. Kaluuya and Singh are now wrapping up the initial draft, with valuable guidance from key figures behind the Spider-Verse franchise. Their collaboration aims to capture the same energy and innovation that made the animated films such a hit with audiences.
Creative Inspiration and Guidance
Kaluuya has spoken openly about how much the Spider-Verse movies have influenced him.
“Those Spider-Verse films, they speak to me,”
he shared.
“I was so inspired by them. I think the filmmakers and the animators are some of the best storytellers in the game. So, I want to put myself in environments where I can grow and learn what they know.”
With the support of producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, Kaluuya has been able to refine his vision for the film. Lord offered a key piece of advice, telling Kaluuya,
“films aren’t about people, they’re about relationships.”
This perspective has helped shape the direction of the script, focusing on the connections that drive the story forward.
Capturing the Spirit of the Spider-Verse
Kaluuya admires the dynamic partnership between Miller and Lord, crediting their passion for storytelling and animation as a major influence.
“They also tap into a joy of cinema and storytelling and animation, and I think joy is so hard to do, and that’s something I’m aspiring for. They love what they do, and that’s what the audience is really feeling.”
As the script nears completion, fans are eager to see how Kaluuya’s vision will blend with the vibrant style and emotional depth that define the Spider-Verse. The project remains in its early stages, but anticipation is already building for what promises to be a fresh and exciting chapter in the Spider-Man universe.
Looking Ahead
While Kaluuya’s Spider-Punk film is moving forward, the wait continues for the next installment in Miles Morales’ journey. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is set to hit theaters on June 18, 2027, keeping fans counting down the days until the web-slinging action returns to the big screen.
