Daisy Ridley reflects on a movie that almost united her with Alden Ehrenreich, years before their upcoming romantic comedy. Discover how their missed opportunity led to a new collaboration and what to expect from their latest project together.

Daisy Ridley recently shared her thoughts on a project that nearly brought her together with Alden Ehrenreich, long before their upcoming film, The Last Resort. In a candid conversation, Ridley revealed that she and Ehrenreich were once set to work side by side a decade ago, but the film never materialized. Despite the setback, the two actors formed a friendship that has now paved the way for their on-screen partnership.

From Missed Chances to a New Beginning

The abandoned film dates back to the early stages of their careers, when both Ridley and Ehrenreich were just starting to make waves in the industry. Now, after years of anticipation, the pair will finally share the spotlight in The Last Resort. Ridley explained,

I signed onto [The Last Resort] before I knew Alden was doing it. Alden and I were supposed to do a movie together ten years ago. It ended up not happening, but we became buddies, so I was really thrilled when he came on

Although both actors are known for their roles in the Star Wars universe—Ridley as Rey and Ehrenreich as Han Solo—their paths never crossed on set. This new film marks the first time fans will see them together in a feature.

Switching Gears: A Fresh Take for Ridley

Ridley has often gravitated toward roles that explore themes of isolation and solitude. She admitted that this wasn’t a deliberate choice, but rather something she naturally leans toward. However, her latest project with Ehrenreich offers a different experience.

The Last Resort, which I made with Alden, really does buck that [loneliness] trend. I got to be around people. I mean, there is an element of loneliness to the person I play in that, but she really finds so much joy in the people around her. So it was really fun to do that

She also acknowledged that promoting the film will likely spark questions about their Star Wars backgrounds. While fans may never see them together in that galaxy, their collaboration in this romantic comedy is sure to draw attention.

Inside The Last Resort: Cast, Story, and More

The Last Resort is a romantic comedy directed by Donald Petrie, known for hits like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Ridley stars as Brooke, a determined hotel executive aiming to prove she’s ready to take over her father’s business. Her journey takes her to the Philippines, where she meets Ben, played by Ehrenreich, an expat pilot who introduces her to a new way of life. As their relationship develops, Brooke faces a choice between her career ambitions and her growing feelings for Ben.

The film’s script was written by Karen McCullah, and the cast features Jo Koy, Beck Bennett, Sam Neill, Tia Carrere, and several well-known Filipino actors. The movie is produced by Asia Pacific Films (MVP Group), though a release date has yet to be announced. Fans eager to see Ridley and Ehrenreich together will have to wait a bit longer, but anticipation is already building for this unique pairing.
