Miley Cyrus has a message for the naysayers circling her tribute to godmother Dolly Parton: the spotlight isn’t theirs to take.

Midway through night two at the Hollywood Bowl, Miley Cyrus stopped the music to address the chatter around her comeback. Without naming names, she called out a commentator she said was chasing clicks over her Friday opener.

“I don’t know if any of you heard that somebody was doing commentary to get clickbait on their video talking about my show on Friday night, but I’m a lot of things and we’re not even going to entertain that,” she said.

The online nitpicks included complaints that she didn’t sing every single line of familiar hits like “Party in the USA” and “Flowers.” Cyrus met that head-on during Sunday’s set, tossing off a wry aside as she launched into “Bass Persuades,” the lead single off her new album:

“Oh, I forgot I’m supposed to sing every f****** line!”

The weekend also carried a softer moment. Cyrus fought back tears giving a stripped-down “Jolene” in honor of Dolly Parton, and told the crowd performing doesn’t feel as automatic as it once did after four years away. She revealed she nearly walked from Sunday’s show before stepping out for “Orbit,” but added she wouldn’t leave fans sitting in their seats without a performance.

After the Bowl

The two-night engagement doubled as a live unveiling of her new era — performing simply as Miley — and her first full-length concerts in four years.

  • Venue — Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles
  • Dates — October 16 and 18
  • New album — Bass Persuades
  • Billed as — Miley (mononym)

Demand was intense — reportedly nearly 1.5 million people queued online for about 35,000 available tickets — but don’t expect a road map for a traditional tour just yet. Cyrus has no additional shows on the books and is cautious about the grind of touring, though a return to the Bowl as a residency has been floated as a way to get back onstage without living on a bus. For now, there are no further dates scheduled.
