Comparing 'Mother Mary' to her box office hits, Anne Hathaway weighs the difference

At the Los Angeles premiere of The End of Oak Street, Anne Hathaway told Extra that her whirlwind stretch has spanned box-office smashes, an A24 drama that drew raves, and now a crowd-pleasing creature feature.

“I wanted, thankfully, that you know two of the movies ( The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey ) have done unbelievably well and one movie ( Mother Mary) was very well respected, and now we got this one (The End of Oak Street) which is just so much fun, and it 's such a great time at the movies.”

She framed the past year as a run through very different lanes — studio hits, an arthouse swing, and a playful, family- aimed scare machine. Here’s how Hathaway broke it down:

• The Devil Wears Prada 2 — the sequel she said performed “unbelievably well.”
• The Odyssey — another theatrical project Hathaway said was a big success.
• Mother Mary (A24) — the psychological drama she noted was “very well respected.”
• The End of Oak Street — her new sci‑fi survival/family-friendly horror ride, out August 14, 2026 .

Heat, stunts and camaraderie

Hathaway said shooting Oak Street was physically intense: long days of sprinting, screaming, and reacting to creatures that would only exist after visual effects were added. The cast, she said, bonded fast under the heat and pressure.

“We had a very, very real bond on this movie. Like, you know how it's hot right now? It was hot like this there. And we were running and screaming and being chased by imaginary dinosaurs.”

That bond, she added, came from a lot of humor and people looking out for each other when the action got punishing.

“And they were all the smoothest people, best senses of humor. Everybody took care of everybody else.”

Hathaway called Oak Street a “great time at the movies,” and said the project let her try a subgenre she hadn’t tackled before while keeping the tone fun for families. The End of Oak Street opens August 14, 2026.
