Comedy royalty just crossed the streams for real: Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy are now co-grandpas. Martin's daughter Jasmin Lawrence and Eddie's son Eric Murphy quietly welcomed a baby girl named Ari Skye earlier this month.
Eddie, 65, confirmed it on E! News on Saturday, April 18, 2026, saying the baby arrived a week or two earlier and dropping the name. Classic Eddie move: he would not dish out parenting tips to the new mom and dad either.
"You know, your kids do not go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you. The stuff you be saying, they do not even pay that s*** no mind. They watch and see what you do. So, I do not give a lot of advice."
How we got here
Jasmin and Eric have not posted their own baby announcement yet. They did share the pregnancy back in February with a joint Instagram: sweet maternity shots, a black and white photo where Eric rests his head on Jasmin's bump, and solo pics of Jasmin cradling her belly. The vibe was basically thank you to the universe for the best gift.
Martin jumped in on Instagram that day too, celebrating his first grandchild on the way and getting pretty heartfelt about family being everything and this being a blessing.
The relationship timeline, quick and clean
They went public as a couple in June 2021. In 2022, Jasmin explained they did not meet through their very famous dads, even though Martin and Eddie are longtime friends who have made two movies together. Instead, her uncle introduced them. They clicked fast, shared a lot of the same background, and it grew from there.
Engagement landed in November 2024. By May 2025, Eddie revealed on The Jennifer Hudson Show that the two had already snuck off and gotten married in a small church ceremony a few weeks earlier. Low key, just the two of them. He even joked that Martin dodged paying for a giant wedding. From there, Eddie happily called Martin his in-law.
