They are simply the best at what they do.

One detective has an elegant moustache, another writes novels. What do they have in common? A passion for solving crimes.

We have chosen five cozy detective series that feature cleverly twisted plots, cozy atmosphere, and memorable characters.

1. Poirot, 1989-2013

Hercule Poirot from Agatha Christie's novels has been played by several actors. However, the most popular and loved by the audience is David Suchet. He created a unique image of a brilliant detective with a funny walk, eccentric behavior and charming habits and passions: for example, his love for small cakes and very sweet coffee.

Poirot is a true perfectionist, a gentleman, sometimes a mischievous joker, and a bit of a narcissist who believes his brain is unique. But you can't argue with him – during the investigation, Poirot notices even the smallest, seemingly insignificant details that play a decisive role in catching the criminal.

2. Castle, 2009-2016

Popular crime novelist Richard Castle is suffering from a creative crisis. Then, suddenly, a maniac begins to operate in New York, committing murders based on Castle's books.

The author helps detective Kate Beckett solve a series of deaths. Castle uses his celebrity clout to become a consultant to the police department for inspiration for new books. Castle's attentiveness and unconventional approach allow Beckett to look at complex investigations in a different way.

3. Moonlighting, 1985-1989

Moonlighting is a detective story in which the main attraction is not the investigation, but the detectives themselves. Model Madolyn Hayes, played by Cybill Shepherd, loses a large sum of money to an accountant's fraud.

In order to solve her financial problems, she is forced to become the manager of the Blue Moon Detective Agency, where detective David Addison works – one of Bruce Willis' first roles that made him famous.

The relationship between the strict Madolyn and the cheerful David is the heart of the series. The tension between them is sometimes more exciting than their most thrilling investigations.

4. Murder, She Wrote, 1984-1996

Jessica Fletcher started writing mystery novels after the death of her husband. She also began traveling and helping the police solve complex cases – all the while leaving notes for her novels.

The cheerful, good-natured and clever detective charms with her enthusiasm and good humor. She often finds herself in dangerous situations, but always finds virtuoso ways to deal with criminals.

5. Magnum, P.I., 1980-1988

The role of private detective Thomas Magnum was a breakthrough for Tom Selleck. The mustachioed macho became one of the most popular TV characters of the 80s.

The brutal and daring man seemed to have come out of a tough action movie. In his adventures, however, Magnum relies more on a sharp mind, attentiveness and cunning.

Viewers are used to noir settings and cold darkness in detective series, but here – a refreshingly sunny atmosphere, as the action takes place on the Hawaiian Islands.
