Carrie Underwood shuts down feud chatter with Nikki Glaser after the comedian’s American Idol cameo, saying the internet tried to pit two women against each other — but there’s no bad blood.

American Idol viewers thought they spotted tension at the judges table. Carrie Underwood says relax — you did not.

So where did this come from?

Last month, comedian Nikki Glaser — yes, the self-proclaimed Swiftie — popped in as a guest judge for Idol's Taylor Swift-themed night. She sat alongside the regular panel of Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. The internet immediately started reading vibes between Glaser, 41, and Underwood, 43. One Reddit user declared, 'Carrie cannot standddd Nikki lol.' Another chimed in, 'Carrie and Nikki could not be more opposite lol.'

Carrie shuts it down

On Wednesday, May 6, Underwood went on SiriusXM's The Highway with host Cody Alan and addressed the chatter head-on. Short version: there is no feud, no cold war, no anything.

'I feel like if you have two ladies in the same room together, someone is going to try to make a big thing out of it... She was wonderful... But no, there is no beef. I have no beef.'

Alan basically rolled his eyes at the whole storyline too, saying he could not imagine Carrie being a mean person.

The receipts are already out there

Right after Glaser's guest spot in April, Underwood posted on Instagram: 'Had a fun night with the beautiful and hilarious @nikkiglaser joining us as a guest judge tonight on American Idol.' Glaser jumped into the comments with: 'Thank you for being so kind and cool! A true dream sitting next to you!'

Quick timeline

  • April: Nikki Glaser appears on American Idol's Taylor Swift night. She is a guest judge alongside Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. Fans start speculating about friction during the broadcast.
  • Online reaction: Reddit posts claim Carrie 'cannot stand' Nikki and that the two are total opposites.
  • May 6 (Wednesday): On SiriusXM's The Highway, Underwood praises Glaser's performance at the desk, notes how tough it is to give constructive feedback on the fly, and says flat-out there is no beef.

Why this matters for Carrie on Idol

Underwood is back at Idol in a full-circle way. She won season 4, went from total unknown to tens of millions of viewers knowing her name, and then, after Katy Perry's 2024 exit, Carrie was announced as her replacement and has been judging since. She has said she is proud of what she did on the show back then — and just as proud of everything since. Now she is the one handing out notes, and, in this case, handing out compliments to her guest co-judge while the internet tried to invent a fight that was not there.
