The Not So Meet-Cute

Well, to be honest, Krasinski and Blunt's first meeting was nothing out of a romantic movie. They met the way we mortals usually do, by being introduced to each other at a restaurant by a mutual friend.

Emily recalled this story in 2018, around the time of A Quiet Place's premiere, while chatting with Seth Meyers during an appearance on his show.

'It's kind of a sad, lame story. I was in a restaurant, he was in the restaurant,' Blunt described. 'And my friend, Gray, goes, “Oh my god, that's my friend, John.” And that was it.'

Evidently, Krasinski was dining with Justin Theroux. But he abandoned Theroux to come over and talk to Gray and Emily. That's when he made her laugh for the first time (apparently humor is the foundation of their romance), and that's when they both immediately realized that this night was the moment set aside for them in heaven.

'I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, “Oh god, I think I'm going to fall in love with her,”' Krasinski told Ellen DeGeneres in 2011. 'It's one of those things where as soon as you meet someone you kind of know.'

The First Date

By the time the star couple met, John was already a bit of an Emily stan. In a 2016 interview with Glamour, he revealed that he had watched The Devil Wears Prada more than 70 times. As for Emily, she was immune to John's The Office fame. When it came to the famous sitcom, Blunt, who grew up in London, was a fan of the British version. But she binged the American one soon after the fateful meeting, and naturally fell for the charming Jim Halpert.

While both actors tell the story of their first encounter in almost identical terms, what followed is material for a cute disagreement. Who was the first to ask the other out? In a 2018 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Emily and John gave two contrasting answers. While Emily thought she could be the one to make the first move, John is sure it was him, and it actually took him some time to convince the girl of his dreams to go out with him.

Well, they didn't exactly go out. Instead, they stayed in Krasinski's L.A. apartment and ate pizza while sharing a moment they don't want to go public with.
