Camron Jones lands Tupac Shakur role in upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic
A rising actor steps into Tupac Shakur’s orbit for Snoop Dogg’s upcoming biopic — and it’s his biggest break yet.
Born in Salt Lake City and raised in San Ramon in the East Bay, Camron Jones didn’t come up in music at all — his first stage was a high school speech-and-debate tournament his mom insisted he enter. He went on to compete nationally in dramatic interpretation, the kind of precise, text-driven performance that later steered him toward acting. If his name rings a bell for hip-hop fans, a quick note: he’s not the Harlem rapper Cam’ron — different spelling, different lane.
Jones earned a BFA in Acting from USC, then crossed the Atlantic in 2017 for the British American Drama Academy’s Midsummer in Oxford program at Magdalen College. The focus there was Shakespeare, which meant voice, verse and presence — training that quietly underpins his screen work now that he’s stepping into Tupac Shakur’s orbit.

On the lighter side, he plays basketball, hikes Griffith Park and checks out vegan spots with his grandmother.
Despite portraying one of hip-hop’s defining figures, Jones doesn’t have a professional rap background. His agency bio notes he spends time in the studio with friends, but there’s no record of releases — this is an acting job first, not a music crossover.

The casting, first reported by The Hollywood Reporter on August 25, 2026 , drops Jones into Snoop, Universal’s official Snoop Dogg biopic. Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Dolemite Is My Name) directs from a script originally by Joe Robert Cole with revisions by Brewer. Producing are Brian Grazer for Imagine Entertainment, Allan Mandelbaum, Snoop Dogg, and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker.

Early reaction has split along familiar biopic lines: some are hung up on how closely Jones resembles Tupac; others are waiting to see what he does on screen. For Jones, whose path ran from debate podiums to Shakespeare workshops to cable dramas, it ’s the biggest swing yet — with August 6, 2027, circled on the calendar.
