Bryan Cranston is ‘exceedingly proud’ as Breaking Bad secures a major accolade
Breaking Bad just nabbed one of TV’s biggest honors, and Bryan Cranston’s response is disarmingly humble.
The New York Times polled 516 television professionals to build its new 100 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century list, and the top spot went to Breaking Bad. Eligible series had to debut on or after January 1, 2000. The rest of the top five shook out like this:
- 1. Breaking Bad
- 2. The Wire
- 3. Mad Men
- 4. Succession
- 5. Fleabag
Bryan Cranston, who won four Emmys for playing Walter White, told People the recognition belongs to everyone who built the show alongside him.
“I’m exceedingly proud of that,” Cranston said. “That’s something that’s voted on. That’s bestowed upon us as the collective who had something to do with that show,”
Created by Vince Gilligan, the AMC drama carved out a reputation for nerve-shredding set pieces and pitch-black humor — from the pilot’s RV-in-the-desert meltdown to the cartel’s infamous warning delivered on a tortoise that detonates as Hank Schrader inches closer. Nearly 20 years after Cranston’s tighty-whities and an old Winnebago kicked off Walter’s descent, the series is still the one other dramas get measured against.
Invincible loads its next punch
In other TV news from the same orbit of brutal storytelling, Prime Video says Invincible Season 5 will arrive in 2027 — and the streamer has already ordered Season 6 ahead of that premiere.
Voice talent confirmed for the next chapters includes returning leads and several heavy-hitting additions introduced in Season 4, plus a new name for Season 5:
- Steven Yeun — Mark Grayson
- J.K. Simmons — Omni-Man
- Lee Pace — Thragg (introduced in Season 4)
- Matthew Rhys — Dinosaurus (introduced in Season 4)
- Danai Gurira — Universa (introduced in Season 4)
- Jack Quaid — Chris, a.k.a. Gravitator (confirmed for Season 5)
Plot details are under wraps. Robert Kirkman’s comics still have plenty of live ammo — the Viltrumite war looming large, Thragg’s ruthless designs, and Mark’s increasingly complicated choices — but Prime Video isn’t saying which arcs Season 5 will pull from.
Season 5 of Invincible lands in 2027 on Prime Video.
