Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have announced Soulm8te, the first official spinoff set within the M3GAN universe as a feature film.

Grief sits at the center of Soulm8te : an engineer named David, reeling from his wife’s death, orders an android companion called Sara and rewrites her code to feel more human. What starts as comfort turns into fixation, as programming and desire blur and a partner built to heal becomes a threat.

Set in the world of M3GAN but designed to function on its own, the movie isn’t a direct continuation of the killer-doll storyline. Instead, it pivots the franchise toward relationship horror, swapping occult scares for circuitry and control.

The third entry in the M3GAN universe is built as a standalone spinoff.

Irish filmmaker Kate Dolan directs, with Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster backing the project. The tone aims colder and more intimate than M3GAN’s viral mayhem, drilling into how loneliness and code can lock together in dangerous ways.

Where it fits now

Recent studio horror has thrived on that mix of modern fear and messy emotion. M3GAN turned AI anxiety into pop spectacle, while Obsession showed how a small, high-concept thriller can catch fire.

According to the film ’s makers, Obsession was produced for a modest $750,000 and has topped $400 million worldwide, a runaway result that naturally sparked talk of a follow-up. Writer-director Curry Barker is reportedly proceeding carefully, weighing a straight sequel against an anthology-style expansion of the One Wish Willow mythology rather than rushing out a Part 2.

Placed alongside that momentum, Soulm8te reads as a parallel branch of the M3GAN universe—its own story about love rewritten as code, not a direct sequel or remake of what came before.
