Ben Robinson Admits Below Deck Wedding Reopened Old Wounds After Failed Engagement
A romantic vow renewal on Below Deck Down Under reopens old wounds for Ben Robinson, whose failed engagement casts a shadow over the crew’s celebration in the March 30 episode.
Below Deck Down Under turned a sweet little vow renewal into a minefield for Ben Robinson, thanks to his very public non-wedding. If you sensed something was off during Monday night’s episode, you weren’t wrong.
What set Ben off on Monday, Mar 30
The crew was setting up a romantic vow renewal for their primary guests, and Ben was... not exactly vibing with the love-in. He kept it cool on the job, but the occasion clearly scraped at a fresh-ish wound from his own busted engagement.
"Oh, I just missed one. It was my own."
He said the dinner was stirring up old feelings, promised to box it all up and focus on service, and even joked that he’d already torpedoed one wedding and wasn’t about to sink another. Classic gallows humor, but the subtext wasn’t subtle.
How we got here (and why it’s messy)
- May 2023: Us Weekly reports Ben is engaged to Kiara Cabral. They’d been together for a little over three years at that point.
- September 2024: Before the big day, Ben confirms the wedding is off.
- Season 4 premiered last month on Bravo: On the show, Ben says he was supposed to get married last year and claims he discovered Kiara had been seeing one of his friends for a long stretch. He also says he’s extra raw right now because people keep letting him down — phrased with a few spicy syllables.
- February (TikTok time): Kiara posts her side, pushing back hard on what aired.
She denies ever being romantically involved with any of his friends, says she was the one who ended things because of how he treated her, and describes having to process a lot of trauma from the relationship. She adds that it’s been over two years since the breakup and she’s moved on — or at least she was, until the internet started piling on again now that the episodes are out. She notes the footage was filmed a while ago, calls what she walked away from 'narcissism,' says she doesn’t have a platform, and just wants peace. She also hopes he’s healed too."Everything Ben has said about me on the show is 100 percent false."
The reality-TV time warp problem
If the timeline feels like a pretzel, that’s because it is. Filming lags, public announcements, and now-airing episodes don’t line up cleanly. Ben’s talking about a wedding that was supposed to happen last year and a split that became public in September 2024. Kiara says the relationship actually ended more than two years ago and that she’s been done since then. Both things can be true in TV land, which doesn’t make it any less confusing for viewers — or less brutal for the people reliving it on screen.
