Avengers: Doomsday rumors hint at Marvel’s Illuminati return — here’s what we know
A sly detail in newly surfaced promo art has fans thinking Avengers: Doomsday tips its hat to Marvel’s Illuminati — and it hints at a rather unexpected recruit.
One of Marvel ’s go-to insiders says the studio is quietly assembling a brain trust for Avengers: Doomsday that looks a lot like the comics’ secret council — only without the name. In a new report from The Cosmic Circus, writer Alex Perez says the movie will feature an “Illuminati 2.0” built from familiar power players, even if nobody onscreen uses that label.
“Also, technically, we get a form of Illuminati 2.0, though they don’t call themselves that,” Perez said.
Who’s in the room?
According to Perez, several marquee figures are expected to show up, with one already locked in. Here’s how the rumored lineup shakes out so far:
- Professor X — expected to appear
- Black Panther — expected to appear
- Reed Richards — expected to appear
- Namor — officially part of the cast
- Sam Wilson’s Captain America — expected to be involved
- Wong — expected to be involved
Beyond that council, the movie is rumored to pull in entire squads for the fight. Early chatter points to a cross-team pileup that includes:
- Fantastic Four
- Thunderbolts
- Wakandans
Monster trailer numbers
The speculation is translating into real-world interest. In its first 24 hours, the film ’s debut trailer reportedly drew 503 million views across platforms — the second-biggest launch for a movie trailer on record. The only one ahead of it is Spider- Man: Brand New Day with 719 million day-one views.
Ticket sellers are feeling it too: advance sales hit $16.5 million within the first day. Avengers: Doomsday is slated to open in theaters this December.
