What if the Soviets planted the first flag on the moon? Apple TV’s acclaimed For All Mankind has spent five seasons tracing the shockwaves and bruising fallout—mostly from the American side.

If you thought For All Mankind was done poking at its alt-history moon race from the U.S. side, Apple just flipped the camera. After five seasons charting the fallout of a world where the Soviets landed first, Apple is bringing the flagship to a close with a sixth and final season — but the universe rolls on. The first trailer just dropped for the spinoff Star City, and it heads straight back to 1969 to tell the story from the other side of the Iron Curtain.

So what is Star City?

Short version: it is For All Mankind, but inside the Soviet program as they fight to get their cosmonauts to the Moon. The show zeroes in on the people actually making it happen: the flyers, the engineers trying to keep them alive, the intelligence officers embedded among them, and the pressured 'Chief Designer' attempting to hold the whole thing together — played by Rhys Ifans.

The trailer makes it clear this is not a quiet workplace drama. Paranoia about the Americans is already sky-high, and then evidence surfaces that someone inside Star City is feeding intel to the U.S. That kind of breach turns an already tense mission profile into a fuse, with confrontations that could put the cosmonauts themselves in the crosshairs. It is a sharp POV shift from the main series, and, yes, a very nerdy timeline pivot for anyone who has been tracking the show’s sprawling alt-history.

"A bold new chapter inspired by the critically acclaimed space- race drama, For All Mankind, Star City is a propulsive paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humankind forward."
