Another setback hits 'Harry Potter' season 2 as fan outrage grows

Filming on Season 2 of the new Harry Potter series has been pushed after scripts didn’t get final sign-off, with cameras now expected to start rolling in October. According to a report from The Sun, HBO and Warner Bros. are holding back until the “plot and characterizations” feel locked, which has paused a shoot that was initially slated to begin last month.

The second season adapts Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A production delay this early could ripple into the release timetable, even as Season 1 — covering Sorcerer’s Stone — is aiming to arrive around Christmas .

Before premiere, Season 1 has already drawn online gripes about its look — specifically a darker color palette and cinematography — along with some pushback on early casting choices. That scrutiny is part of why higher-ups are reportedly stressing the scripts now, per The Sun.

Casting shuffle

The Season 2 roster has also been a moving target. None of this has been confirmed by HBO or Warner Bros., but multiple reports and chatter online point to changes and additions:

• Kit Harington — said to be playing Gilderoy Lockhart, reportedly stepping in after earlier rumors linked Nicholas Hoult to the role.
• Bonnie Hill — reportedly cast as Ginny Weasley for Season 2.
• Lenny Rush — rumored to voice/perform Dobby.

More time at Malfoy Manor

One element the series plans to expand: characters who didn’t get as much attention in the films. Actor Lox Pratt, who plays Draco Malfoy, told 1883 Magazine the show will spend time on Draco’s life at home — potentially the first real look inside Malfoy Manor — and dig deeper into Hogwarts teachers and other book details that were skimmed or skipped on the big screen.

HBO and Warner Bros. haven’t commented on the reported delay or the unconfirmed casting moves. For now, Season 2’s start-of-shoot target is October.
