Animated film pact scrapped after three years as Netflix and Paramount split
A three-year animated film pact got axed after a merger reshaped the studio behind it—guess which streaming titan and legacy studio decided to walk away.
The split doesn’t strand the movies already deep in the pipeline: both companies say Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn and Rich Moore’s untitled Jack and the Beanstalk adaptation will still debut on Netflix , even as the broader arrangement winds down. They also said their wider content-licensing relationship continues.
According to Deadline, Netflix and Paramount are ending their animated film agreement after roughly three years. The pact began in October 2023 as a multi-year setup with Skydance Animation following the studio’s exit from Apple, then kept going through Skydance’s merger with Paramount in August 2025 .
What’s still coming to Netflix
Two final features remain part of the Netflix plan. Ray Gunn is described as a science-fiction noir, and Moore’s take on “Jack and the Beanstalk” is still untitled. No premiere dates were announced.
Swapped reportedly drew 144.9 million global views in its first 90 days on Netflix.
How we got here
The Netflix–Skydance stretch started paying off quickly. Vicky Jenson’s Spellbound arrived in 2024, two years after Skydance’s debut feature Luck premiered on Apple in 2022. Then came Nathan Greno’s body-swap comedy Swapped in 2026 , which became a major streaming hit.
