Andor Season 2: Plot, Release Date & Everything We Know

The second season of Andor will premiere on Disney+ in April 2025. We tell you everything we know about the second chapter of the Rogue One prequel.

What Is Andor About?

The events of the series take place five years before everything shown in Rogue One. Cassian Andor is not yet a captain of the Rebel Alliance, but a common thief. In the series, he steals from the Empire on a small scale. In the movie, his ambitions will grow, but his ability to accomplish his goals will remain the same.

The series begins with Cassian trying to find his missing sister and getting into serious trouble. The man must hide until Luthen Rael offers the character another path.

What to Expect from Season 2?

Andor was originally intended to run for five seasons, but the show's creators realized that would not work for a prequel set five years before the events of Rogue One.

In addition, the first season of Andor was filmed during a pandemic and the second during a Hollywood actors' and writers' strike, which slowed work on the project considerably.

As a result, the first season of Andor covers one year of Cassian's life, and the second will cover the other four. Every three episodes of the upcoming season will be devoted to one year, so by the end of the second season, Andor will be up to the events of the beginning of Rogue One.

Alan Tudyk, who played K-2SO, a reprogrammed Imperial droid in Rogue One, will return in the second season of the project, but Felicity Jones, who played Jyn Erso in the movie, should not be expected to appear.

Andor Season 2 Creators

Tony Gilroy, who worked on Rogue One, remains as showrunner for Andor. Dan Gilroy, Beau Willimon and Stephen Schiff are the writers.

In Rogue One, viewers see Cassian at the end of his development, but do not understand the path he had to take to get there. Andor editor John Gilroy said that in the prequel, the image of the main character had to be built from scratch.

Gilroy added that he liked how the different stages of Cassian's life were connected. For example, the importance of Luthen Rael in his life is hinted at in the show by paralleling the escape on the spaceship: when Andor was a child, Maarva saved him. Years later, Luthen will do the same, giving Andor a purpose in life.

The second season of Andor is directed by Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz and Alonso Ruizpalacios, who worked with Diego Luna on the series Narcos: Mexico. Tony Gilroy also wrote the script for the second season.

The premiere of the second season of Andor is scheduled for April 22, 2025.
