American Horror Story fans just got the comeback they craved: Ryan Murphy Productions dropped new Instagram photos revealing Jessica Lange’s return, igniting instant buzz that she may be stepping back into her most iconic role, Constance Langdon.

American Horror Story just decided to make this week a whole event. First came the tease: Jessica Lange is back. Now comes the follow-through: Sarah Paulson is back as Cordelia Goode, the Robichaux Academy is rebuilt, the season is a crossover, and it is dropping earlier than usual.

What Ryan Murphy Productions just confirmed

On Wednesday, the Ryan Murphy Productions Instagram posted a first-look photo of Sarah Paulson suited up again as Cordelia Goode. The caption spells it out: Paulson is the Supreme, the Robichaux Academy is back, and Season 13 is not waiting for its usual spooky-season window.

"The Return of @mssarahcatharinepaulson as Cordelia Goode. The Supreme Rises. And yes we have rebuilt the entire Robichaux Academy."

A few days before that, the same account shared new shots of Jessica Lange looking very Constance Langdon-coded — the pearls, the coiffed hair, the whole vibe — which immediately had fans connecting dots to Murder House.

So... Season 13 is a crossover

Between Cordelia and a fully rebuilt Robichaux Academy (Coven), plus Lange seemingly channeling Constance (Murder House), the show is signaling a multi-season mash-up. That lines up with the last time AHS went big with this: Season 8, aka Apocalypse, which merged Murder House, Coven, and Hotel.

Quick refresher: how Apocalypse left things

In Apocalypse, the New Orleans witches took on the Antichrist, Michael Langdon (born in Murder House). They ultimately beat him when Mallory (played by Billie Lourd) time-traveled and literally ran over teenage Michael. The timeline got reset — kind of — but the ending hinted another Antichrist arrived later, which means the danger never really ended. Also worth remembering: Mallory was positioned to become the next Supreme.

Why these new photos matter

Cordelia returning, Robichaux rebuilt, Lange looking like Constance — it all points toward picking up some of those Apocalypse threads. If Season 13 leans back into that mythology, there is a lot to play with: a reset timeline, a possible new Antichrist, and Mallory’s future as a Supreme that we never truly explored.

Who is back for Season 13 (so far)

  • Sarah Paulson — confirmed as Cordelia Goode (the Supreme from Coven and Apocalypse)
  • Jessica Lange — teased in a look that evokes Constance Langdon (Murder House)
  • Angela Bassett — veteran of Coven/Apocalypse
  • Kathy Bates — AHS mainstay with ties across multiple seasons
  • Emma Roberts — Coven/Apocalypse alum
  • Billie Lourd — played Mallory (the time-traveling witch poised to be the next Supreme)
  • Gabourey Sidibe — Coven/Apocalypse alum
  • Leslie Grossman — Apocalypse and beyond

When it premieres (and why that is odd)

The Instagram post also said the show is targeting September. AHS usually shows up in October, brushing up against Halloween. Sliding into September is a small but notable shift — another sign they want to get this one in front of people sooner.

Production status

Cameras just started rolling this week. So, yes, we are early — but between the casting, the Robichaux rebuild, and the Constance energy, the picture is already getting pretty clear. If you were waiting for the show to go back to its witchy, Murder House-adjacent chaos, it looks like that wait is almost over.
