Girls alum Allison Williams is here for the baby news, cheering former costar Chris Abbott as he readies for fatherhood with girlfriend Aubrey Plaza and telling E! News she’s thrilled for the couple.

Allison Williams is very here for her old Girls buddy Christopher Abbott becoming a dad with Aubrey Plaza. She lit up when asked about it this week and then dropped one of the more refreshingly honest bits of parenting advice I’ve heard in a while.

The congrats (and the only baby advice she’ll give)

Williams, 38, told E! News on Wednesday, April 15, that she’s thrilled for Abbott, 40, and Plaza, 41. She and husband Alexander Dreymon have a 4-year-old son, Arlo, so she’s been through the newborn trenches. Her guidance for the parents-to-be was basically: tune out the noise and trust yourselves.

"Don’t listen to anyone. Trust your instincts. People have been doing this for as long as there have been people, so just trust your instincts, call your friends, reach out, let a stranger hold your baby so you can pee, you know."

Where the baby news stands

  • Apr 7: Plaza’s rep confirms to People that she’s pregnant. A source says she’s due this fall and that she and Abbott feel very blessed.
  • Apr 8: Plaza steps out with a visible baby bump the day after the announcement.
  • Mon, Apr 13: On the SmartLess podcast, Plaza keeps it simple: "Well, there’s a baby inside of me." In classic Plaza fashion, she adds that both she and her dog had stomach ultrasounds that day — hers for the baby, the dog’s for a scan. She also says she’s excited to be a first-time mom and has always been curious about the whole experience.
  • Wed, Apr 15: Williams reacts publicly with the above advice and says she’s genuinely excited for them.

Plaza and Abbott’s connection

No official timeline on when they started dating, but the two have worked together before: the 2020 indie thriller Black Bear and an Off-Broadway run of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in 2023. So yes, this is one of those showbiz relationships that likely started with a script and a rehearsal room.

The tough context behind the joy

Plaza’s good news follows a brutal year. Her late husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, died by suicide in January 2025 at 47. It later came out that they had quietly separated in September 2024 after more than a decade together; they married in 2021. At the time, her rep called his death an unimaginable tragedy, thanked everyone for the support, and asked for privacy. Friends and colleagues across Hollywood publicly sent love her way.

Bottom line

Happy news for Plaza and Abbott as they head into fall with a baby on the way — and a little real-talk encouragement from Williams, who’s been in the trenches and remembers the bathroom logistics.
