Several Green Lanterns are confirmed for the DC Universe, but their power levels are far from equal. From battle-hardened veterans to rising ring-bearers, here’s who truly shines as DC’s new era ignites.

DC is finally giving Green Lantern the spotlight again, and after a couple of rough live-action swings, I’m cautiously optimistic. The DCU series Lanterns drops in August and it ’s not just about one ring-slinger. Multiple versions of Green Lantern already exist in this new continuity, and a fresh trailer even slipped in a very specific deep-cut nod. So, here’s where the confirmed Lanterns should land on the power scale when the DCU really gets rolling, based on how they’ve been portrayed in the comics and other adaptations. There’s no single, definitive ranking in canon, but there is a pretty clear pecking order most fans agree on.

Quick setup: Green Lantern isn’t DC’s most famous brand to normies, but across decades of continuity it’s been a backbone series, with different characters taking the ring at different times. The DCU seems ready to lean into that history, with Lanterns set to bring multiple corps members into the mix right out of the gate.

  1. Ch'p
The Lanterns trailer quietly confirms Ch'p is in the DCU. How? Hal Jordan offhandedly calls one of his fellow Lanterns a:
    "squirrel"
That’s Ch'p, the small-but-mighty rodent-looking Lantern fans know well. It’s a surprising inclusion to casual viewers, but honestly it fits the tone the DCU’s set so far. Power-wise, Ch'p isn’t a joke — he can handle himself — but compared to the bigger names here, he hasn’t gone toe-to-toe with the same top-tier cosmic threats. He’s the least powerful of the confirmed bunch, more because of scale of opponents than raw skill.
  2. Guy Gardner
Nathan Fillion is playing Guy in 2025 ’s Superman — the DCU’s first movie — which is a fun bit of casting. Guy’s a tank with absurd willpower and a chip on his shoulder, and he’s absolutely one of the Corps’ toughest. That said, when you stack him against Earth’s heaviest-hitting Lanterns who are also showing up in the DCU, he usually lands a notch or two below them in sheer power output.
  3. John Stewart
John is one of the two leads of Lanterns, and that’s exactly where he should be. In the comics, he’s famous for discipline and precision — the guy engineers constructs with structural detail other Lanterns don’t even think to try. Across big cosmic arcs, he routinely proves he’s among the strongest Green Lanterns out there. Expect the show to lean into that methodical, unshakable vibe.
  4. Sinestro
Ulrich Thomsen is bringing Sinestro to life in Lanterns — Hal Jordan’s mentor-turned-nemesis and one of the most skilled ring wielders in DC history. He’s mastered both Green and Yellow power rings, which is a massive flex. In plenty of stories he’s been one of the most powerful Lanterns to ever do it. Still, the DCU probably shouldn’t crown him the absolute top Lantern — that spot belongs to someone else for a reason.
  5. Hal Jordan
Hal is widely considered Earth’s best Green Lantern and the most iconic version of the hero to a lot of fans. In the comics, he’s consistently the benchmark for willpower and has wielded ridiculous cosmic energy more than once. Given that history, it’s almost a lock the DCU will frame him as the most powerful Green Lantern overall. It just fits.

Bottom line: Lanterns looks like it’s going to bring a wide slice of the Corps to live action, not just the usual one-and-done hero. If the show sticks the landing on these power dynamics, the DCU’s Green Lantern corner might finally feel as big and weird and ambitious as it should.
