Laz Alonso has a Mother’s Milk spinoff in mind for life after The Boys — and says Vought Rising could be the key to taking MM’s story even deeper.

The Boys might be done, but Laz Alonso already has a roadmap for what happens to Mother ’s Milk next — and it ’s bigger than a tidy ride into the sunset.

Where the finale left MM — and why Ryan matters

By the end of the series finale, Mother’s Milk is one of the few core members of The Boys who actually make it out alive. He heads home to his family … with Ryan in tow. Yes, that Ryan — Homelander’s son, Soldier Boy’s grandson. Not exactly a low-drama houseguest.

Alonso told The Hollywood Reporter the choice to put Ryan under MM’s roof wasn’t just a surprise epilogue. He sees it as MM trying to end a cycle — the same Soldier Boy who directly caused MM’s deepest trauma by killing his grandfather, mother, and uncle now has a descendant MM can protect and guide. In Alonso’s words, it’s about breaking generational damage and building something new, not just clocking out after a revenge tour.

"I’m always pitching. So, Amazon, if you’re listening; Kripke, if you’re listening."

He’s half-joking there, but he does have a specific angle in mind: MM mentoring Ryan the way Butcher once pulled Hughie into the fight. To be super clear, he says there are no official talks — this is Alonso thinking out loud about a story that finale ending quietly set up.

The prequel could fill in MM’s past too

There’s also Vought Rising on the horizon, a prequel expected to dig into Soldier Boy’s earlier years. Alonso thinks that’s the perfect lane to revisit MM’s family history and long, messy link to Vought and Compound V. Given Soldier Boy’s direct connection to MM’s trauma, the bridge between those stories basically builds itself.

  • Post-finale pitch: MM continues as Ryan’s mentor, echoing how Butcher once recruited Hughie.
  • Prequel possibilities: MM’s family roots in Harlem; his father’s legal fight against Vought over unsafe conditions; his mother working in a Compound V facility; and MM being born with a V dependency — all threads Alonso floated as ways to deepen the character’s backstory.

A couple of behind-the-scenes nuggets

Alonso says he actually knew MM would survive the finale way back in Season 3 after conversations with series creator Eric Kripke — a very behind-the-scenes tidbit that makes that final handoff to Ryan feel a lot more intentional in hindsight.

And on a lighter note: he joked that when he saw the Season 3 promo posters, he asked Amazon if they had digitally added weight to his face. They hadn’t. Brutal honesty all around.

With The Boys wrapped and the franchise expanding into prequel territory, Alonso clearly doesn’t think Mother’s Milk’s story is finished. If his ideas land, we could get both a present-day mentorship drama with Ryan and a prequel thread that finally shows how deep MM’s connection to Vought really runs. I’d watch that in a heartbeat.
