5 Times Twilight Stars Spoke Out Against The Vampire Saga
It's no longer in trend to be a Twilight hater, but the era when its stars openly roasted the franchise is hard to forget.
A couple years ago, Robert Pattinson surprised Twilight fans by defending the vampire franchise in a chat with his Batman co-star Zoë Kravitz.
'It's not even cool to be a hater anymore,' Robert said after hearing that Zoë hadn't even seen the saga. 'That's so 2010.'

Of course, this is a joke, but it sure sounds like music to the ears of any seasoned fan who was part of the fandom back in Pattinson's Twilight-hater era. Back then, Robert never held back when it came to slamming the franchise in various interviews. And his co-stars often echoed his sentiments.
Here are five things the Twilight cast said about the franchise that make it clear they were not exactly its fans.
1. Anna Kendrick
Aside from Robert Pattinson, the least enthusiastic actor during filming was probably Anna Kendrick, who portrayed Bella Swan's high school friend Jessica Stanley. When the actress found out she wouldn't have to reprise her role in Breaking Dawn Part 2, she was happy, to say the least.
'It's a relief not to have to transverse into the murky waters of talking about Twilight,' Kendrick told BBC Breakfast.
Kendrick has said in various interviews that she absolutely hated talking about Twilight because she was always being asked about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's personal lives. She also mentioned that her time on the set of the iconic franchise was quite harrowing.
'There was something about it, like if you go through some trauma event,' Kendrick told Vanity Fair, adding that she just wanted to 'murder everyone' on the set.
2. Taylor Lautner
Another actor who felt awkward on the Twilight set was Taylor Lautner, who was only 16 when he landed the role of werewolf Jacob, becoming the third part of the saga's famous love triangle. The story demanded numerous shirtless scenes from Jacob, which was a challenge for the young actor.
'I'm always the only person with my shirt off, so... I wish just everybody could, you know, do it once and then you know, it would make me feel more comfortable,' he told E! News.
Speaking of topless scenes, Elizabeth Reaser, who played Esme Cullen, said at the Breaking Dawn Comic-Con that she was 'weirded out' by middle-aged fans obsessing over and sexualizing the teen actor.
'Taylor was just 16 and still a boy when much older ladies would be asking me about his body. It was just really inappropriate.'
3. Kristen Stewart
The Twilight female lead has always defended the vampire franchise in interviews, and took her role as Bella Swan with pride, but she once admitted to Graham Norton that she had reservations about the plot of the final installment, especially the intimate scenes.
'As soon as [Bella] becomes a vampire, they kind of ignore their duties instantly. They just want to bone,' Stewart said. 'It's the most ridiculous situation. Really, you just had a child? Really?'
4. Robert Pattinson on the franchise
Pattinson became the iconic face of the vampire saga adored by millions, but he also stood out as its biggest critic. Today, he might say that hating Twilight is not cool, but in the past, he was one of the earliest adopters of that sentiment.
The actor was open about his discomfort with the films, admitting that it was weird to be 'representing something you don't particularly like.' When asked if he would have seen Twilight had he not been a part of it, Pattinson quipped, 'I would just mindlessly hate it.'
On top of that, the actor brutally roasted the Twilight source material, Stephenie Meyer's book series.
'When I read it, I was convinced, 'This woman is mad. She's completely mad and she's in love with her own fictional creation.' And sometimes you would feel uncomfortable reading this thing,' he told E! News.
5. Robert Pattinson on his character
Pattinson has attacked the franchise on many other occasions, but he has always been particularly scathing about his own character, Edward Cullen, a vampire who fell in love with a teenage girl almost 100 years his junior. He even once compared him to an 'axe murderer' who 'wants to eat' his lover.
'When you put the bare facts out, he tells her, "I killed 40 or 50 people and I want to kill you so much. Every single day, every moment I'm with I'm wanting to kill you." And she's like, "I don't care. I love you." And it's like, well there's definitely something wrong with her and there's obviously something wrong with me,' the actor told Buzzfeed.
