5 Best TV Shows About Teens to Watch While Waiting for Stranger Things Season 5

The best TV teen projects, each with something special to offer.

While the fifth season of the main show about teenagers of this decade, Stranger Things, doesn't even have an exact release date – all we know is that it's due out in early 2025 – it's time to pass the time with other projects that show growing up from different angles.

1. Betty, 2020-2021

The girls navigate the male-dominated world of skateboarding in summertime New York City. Janay is a vlogger who is stubborn and loyal, Kirt is a heartbreaker and romantic, Indigo is a wealthy con artist who dropped out of art school, and Camille is cautious, insightful, and driven.

The main characters are played by skateboarders from the real-life Skate Kitchen skateboard group. In the series, they have fun on the streets of New York, hone their skills, figure out how to spend another birthday, stop suppressing their feelings, and carve up territory with competitors.

2. Blood & Water, 2020-...

Puleng lives in Cape Town in an ordinary family. Suddenly, she finds out that she has a sister who was kidnapped right after she was born.

When Puleng goes to a party organized by Fikile, a popular student from an elite college, Puleng's friend notices how much she looks like the hostess of the party. To find out more about Fikile, Puleng begs her parents to transfer her to a prestigious school and begins an investigation.

This series is based on a real story. In April 1997, a woman dressed as a nurse carried a three-day-old baby out of a maternity hospital in Cape Town. 17 years later, at school, Miche Solomon met Cassidy Nurse, who looked like two peas in a pod. The schoolgirls quickly became friends and later found out they were sisters.

3. Secrets of Sulphur Springs, 2021-2023

Twelve-year-old Griffin and his family move to the town of Sulphur Springs, Louisiana, where his father has purchased a mysteriously abandoned hotel. Once upon a time, the hotel was a summer camp for teenagers – and thirty years ago, an orphan named Savannah disappeared from there.

Now the girl's ghost haunts the hotel, terrifying the locals. Griffin and his new friend Harper find a portal and travel to 1990 – to find out what happened to Savannah and try to save her.

4. Love 101, 2020-2021

Istanbul, 1998. The principal and most of the teachers have turned against the four rebels – Eda, Osman, Sinan and Kerem – and are preparing to expel them. But Burcu, a literature teacher, stands up for her friends.

And everything would be fine, but Burcu is about to be transferred to another school, and then the four will definitely be expelled. The friends find out that the law allows the teacher to stay if she gets married here. They come up with a brilliant plan to make Burcu fall in love with the new sports teacher. But then it turns out that Burcu already has a boyfriend.

5. We Are Who We Are, 2020

14-year-old Fraser moves from noisy New York to a quiet military base in Italy, where his parents are serving. Fraser wanders around town, drinking the local wine, meeting other teens, and trying to find his place in his new environment.

And while the teenagers are preoccupied with themselves and each other, life slowly flows through them, making them grow up and become who they are.

Luca Guadagnino's aesthetic series is a pure work of art. From Fredrik Wenzel's cinematography to Marco Costa's editing, everything here is a visual pleasure.
