4 Horror Movies You Didn't Know Were Actually Based on Real-Life Events

Exorcism sessions, serial killers, and real-life ghosts that have appeared on movie screens.

Horror movies labeled "based on real events" are of particular interest to viewers. Some shrug their shoulders and call it all fiction or a fairy tale, while others believe in the authenticity of the events.

Directors take advantage of this and often take stories from real life, although they add a lot of their own to create more horror.

1. The Town That Dreaded Sundown, 1976

In a small town, a madman attacks a couple of lovers at night. The victims managed to escape, but now the town is in a state of panic. No one is used to this, and people wait in fear for the killer to strike again. A few weeks later, the lovers are found dead under the same circumstances.

The plot of the movie is based on the real story of a madman nicknamed Phantom Killer, whose identity was never revealed.

He operated in the state of Texas in 1946, sowing panic among the inhabitants of a small town. He is credited with eight attacks, all committed on weekends.

2. Eaten Alive, 1976

Near the swamps of Louisiana there is an old hotel. The owner of the establishment, Judd, has acquired an unusual pet – a crocodile that lives behind the hotel. Guests who break the rules do not pay a fine – they are sent to feed the bloodthirsty reptile.

A movie by Tobe Hooper, based on the story of a real-life madman. Joe Ball, nicknamed Bluebeard of South Texas, was a serial killer in the 30s. He owned a bar with an alligator pond on the property. Legend has it that Ball fed the bodies of his victims to his pets, although this has never been proven.

3. The Mothman Prophecies, 2002

Journalist John Klein lost his wife two years ago. Before she died, she told him about a strange creature, but no one believed her. The woman was diagnosed with a brain tumor that caused her death.

As fate would have it, John ends up in the small town of Point Pleasant, where he learns of a strange creature living in the area. It turns out to be very similar to the one that possessed his wife.

This mysterious story was born in 1966 in the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Many people claimed to have seen a strange creature the size of a man, with wings and glowing red eyes.

4. The Girl Next Door, 2007

Megan and her sister Susan live with the Chandler family after the death of their parents. Their Aunt Ruth has three sons, but she is not the best mother. The woman was cruel to the girls: she beat them, tortured them and humiliated them.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Jack Ketchum, which is based on a true story. Sylvia Likens of Indianapolis, Indiana, died at the age of 16 after being tortured by Gertrude Baniszewski, her children, and neighborhood boys.
